Doctor: was your drive in today <1:15:44 PM> Angie - Patient: oh it was great <1:15:45 PM> Paul - Doctor: it so my understanding is you're here for follow up on your diabetes <1:15:53 PM> Angie - Patient: oh yeah <1:15:54 PM> Paul - Doctor: and I understand you had labs done last week <1:15:56 PM> Angie - Patient: yeah I I saw them come up in my online portal and it looks like they're up a little bit <1:16:00 PM> Paul - Doctor: yeah looks like six months ago they your A1C was eight I'm sorry 6.8 <1:16:16 PM> Paul - Doctor: and last week <1:16:18 PM> Paul - Doctor: um that had gone up to 8.6 <1:16:23 PM> Paul - Doctor: what are your thoughts about <1:16:25 PM> Paul - Doctor: what might be the reason that number has gone up <1:16:27 PM> Angie - Patient: yeah I don't know I had a cut out like <1:16:34 PM> Angie - Patient: just been getting like sugar-free coffee um and I've cut out Donuts so I feel like I've been making you know changes to what I eat so I'm surprised to see that it's up <1:16:39 PM> Paul - Doctor: to prove <1:16:44 PM> Paul - Doctor: you would have expected that the number would have been better rather than worse today <1:16:47 PM> Angie - Patient: yeah I'm actually kind of surprised to see it that way I I thought for sure like giving up my you know sugary coffee in the morning and you know my trip through Duncan would have lowered my A1c <1:16:59 PM> Paul - Doctor: well good for you for cutting out the donuts let's set the donuts aside for a moment what else might be responsible for <1:17:19 PM> Paul - Doctor: your A1C going up <1:17:21 PM> Angie - Patient: yeah I mean I it's been pretty cold out lately so I <1:17:28 PM> Angie - Patient: you know typically when it's warm I me and my husband will get out and we'll go for a walk and just since it's been so cold we have not been getting out there cold and rainy <1:17:31 PM> Paul - Doctor: okay cold and rainy and and then baking lots of bread too I understand <1:17:42 PM> Angie - Patient: oh yeah I I joined this like sourdough community and now I have to use up my starter or my it gets too full in my jar <1:17:53 PM> Paul - Doctor: haha <1:17:57 PM> Paul - Doctor: so <1:17:58 PM> Paul - Doctor: I can imagine if you've got the smell of freshly baked bread it would be tempting to consume <1:18:06 PM> Angie - Patient: yeah and it's always really good when it's warm and so somehow like one of the two loaves disappears before the end of the day <1:18:10 PM> Paul - Doctor: Aha and I'm curious what goes on though <1:18:14 PM> Angie - Patient: um we do like grass-fed butter <1:18:17 PM> Paul - Doctor: warm freshly baked bread <1:18:20 PM> Paul - Doctor: grass-fed <1:18:24 PM> Angie - Patient: but but it's better for you because it's grass-fed right I've been reading online about you know <1:18:31 PM> Angie - Patient: progress that's better <1:18:34 PM> Angie - Patient: um yeah I I think it's good as on the fresh baked bread it melts real nice <1:18:34 PM> Paul - Doctor: do you like grass-fed butter <1:18:42 PM> Angie - Patient: um yeah I'm my husband puts jelly on it but I'm not a big sweet eater so I just prefer like a little bit of grass-fed butter and sea salt <1:18:43 PM> Paul - Doctor: and how about jelly <1:18:46 PM> Paul - Doctor: how much might the <1:19:01 PM> Paul - Doctor: consumption be affecting your A1c <1:19:02 PM> Angie - Patient: you know I had not really thought of it before but <1:19:09 PM> Angie - Patient: you know I am baking bread a couple times a week and I <1:19:10 PM> Paul - Doctor: here <1:19:14 PM> Angie - Patient: guess you know I had read that sourdough was better for you than regular bread but I <1:19:20 PM> Paul - Doctor: it smells like it sounds like this might be an aha moment for you <1:19:20 PM> Angie - Patient: and you know it does still have carbs <1:19:23 PM> Angie - Patient: um <1:19:25 PM> Angie - Patient: yeah I probably should not be baking as much bread as I should be <1:19:30 PM> Paul - Doctor: on a scale of 0 to 10 how important do you think it is that you <1:19:40 PM> Paul - Doctor: be a little more careful with your consumption of freshly baked bread with zero I don't think it would matter 10 being <1:19:50 PM> Paul - Doctor: important thing I could do for my diabetes management <1:19:51 PM> Angie - Patient: you know I'm really kind of terrible at getting good bread from sourdough and I'm probably better off to just not bake it at all so <1:20:03 PM> Angie - Patient: it would probably cause me a lot less stress <1:20:03 PM> Paul - Doctor: quick <1:20:07 PM> Angie - Patient: if I would just stop <1:20:07 PM> Paul - Doctor: and with your husband be stressed if you stopped making bread <1:20:11 PM> Angie - Patient: no I think he just eats it because it's there <1:20:17 PM> Paul - Doctor: here I'm wondering if Cassandra Mae would tell us that we're done with this roleplay <1:20:29 PM> Angie - Patient: yeah <1:20:32 PM> Paul - Doctor: how it was almost a real play ________________________________________________________________________________ End of transcript at Apr 15, 2025, 1:20:37 PM
