Patient joined the conference <7:22:28 PM> Jaliyah Spann - Doctor joined the conference <7:22:40 PM> Jaliyah Spann - Doctor: all right so um I guess now that Niko has gone off with the ma I kind of wanted to talk to you a little bit more dad just about Nico in general so yeah tell me a little bit about how he's been house Nico <7:22:53 PM> James Rogers - Patient: and I mean I love him he's great right eight third grade he's you know doing well in school you know I'm a little concerned just was you know some of the ways that some of the other kids are treating him but I mean I think he's a great kid <7:23:06 PM> Jaliyah Spann - Doctor: okay so tell me about some of the ways that Nico or maybe someone else is kind of described as treatment from the other kids <7:23:17 PM> James Rogers - Patient: you know he just we live in a you know we live in a neighborhood all the kids go out in the cul-de-sac you know it's how I was as a kid you know you go out you run around and he just hasn't wanted to go out as much anymore just because you know some of the kids pick on him because you know I I think he's just growing a little faster than the other ones he's a little bit bigger and they kind of point that out <7:23:18 PM> Jaliyah Spann - Doctor: oh okay <7:23:42 PM> Jaliyah Spann - Doctor: yeah I can totally understand from Nico's respective how that you know kind of makes them not want to have a total a bunch of like social interaction with the other kids and you know how that may deter him from going outside is there anything in particular that concerns you about Nico and his relationship to other kids <7:24:03 PM> James Rogers - Patient: you know <7:24:03 PM> James Rogers - Patient: no I mean you know he he's not getting in any fights I don't ever I mean I know I'm his dad so I'm gonna be as big as Advocate but I don't think he's ever starting anything you know a lot of the times he just wants to walk away which is why I feel like he's not going outside anymore you know because these kids are being mean to him and he just doesn't even want there to be trouble in the first place so he kind of ends up <7:24:28 PM> James Rogers - Patient: hanging out at home which I love having them around you know he even if he's just playing on the switch you know I love getting to come home from work and see my boy but <7:24:38 PM> James Rogers - Patient: I do wish that he could you know <7:24:40 PM> James Rogers - Patient: be outside a little bit more with the other kids sometimes just because you know I hope I hope he's not sad you know <7:24:42 PM> Jaliyah Spann - Doctor: yeah I mean I think it's completely normal and rational for any parent who want their kid to have friends and and to have people that you know are kind to them and nice to them and not feel like they're being bullied <7:24:59 PM> Jaliyah Spann - Doctor: so to the extent of the conversation that concerns Niko and his relationship with other kids and what they're saying about his weight <7:25:09 PM> Jaliyah Spann - Doctor: could you kind of could you comment on kind of what those concerns or what those comments are typically from kids <7:25:17 PM> James Rogers - Patient: yeah I mean they they call them fat you know that's the biggest thing you know <7:25:18 PM> Jaliyah Spann - Doctor: the <7:25:23 PM> James Rogers - Patient: oh you're so fat like fatty slow you know they just point that out which you know I don't think is okay obviously I'd never say that to my son so it's kind of just things like that I mean you know how kids are with nicknames they can be a little bit more creative than I can because I'm a 45 year old guy but <7:25:43 PM> James Rogers - Patient: yeah that's kind of what he tells me they say I haven't like bugged the other kids parents about it because you know they're a and you know I don't think that they're necessarily like evil or anything right you know they're kind of just they're being kids but it you know I'm not happy about it <7:25:45 PM> Jaliyah Spann - Doctor: yeah <7:25:56 PM> Jaliyah Spann - Doctor: yeah I mean I know that can be hard as a parent here in those kind of Kit things about your kid and especially from your kid I know earlier you kind of mentioned that Nico was a bit bigger than his peers could you kind of tell me a bit more about kind of your feelings about that or have you ever thought a bit more about Nico seismic comparison to the other kids whose age <7:26:19 PM> James Rogers - Patient: um you know I didn't think about it a lot till he kind of started telling me what the other kids were saying to him you know I know he's not he's not the tallest kid in the grade and you know he's a little you know I mean I'm not blind you know I know I know he's a little bigger but I just I just love them you know I just love them and you know he can be a picky eater a little bit you know obviously sometimes you know when I'm cooking when you know me and my wife will make dinner for him and it's tough you know he eats around the veggies and we try to tell him but you know I just I just the worst thing for me would be as if you know he thought I thought something was wrong with him you know and I just don't want to push that on him and you know he's he's a kid he's growing so when he wants to snack I let him snack you know I know he'll hit a growth spurt one day and you know he'll slim out so <7:26:22 PM> Jaliyah Spann - Doctor: yeah <7:26:52 PM> Jaliyah Spann - Doctor: mmm <7:27:12 PM> Jaliyah Spann - Doctor: yeah I mean <7:27:17 PM> Jaliyah Spann - Doctor: totally understand kind of those concerns as a parent trying to talk to your kids potentially about <7:27:24 PM> Jaliyah Spann - Doctor: having difficult conversations so you kind of mentioned that you are a little afraid of what might happen if you have those conversations with Nico concerning his weight could you tell me a bit more about what what scares you or what what makes you apprehensive to to talk to Nico <7:27:40 PM> James Rogers - Patient: oh yeah you know it's just I want him to trust me you know I'm his dad I don't have to be as best friend but I do want to know that he can come to me for anything at any time and it would destroy me if he thought that I thought you know that there was something wrong with him if I made him feel in any way especially such a young age that like I wasn't somebody he could trust especially given how the other kids are treating him and him you know being I don't want him to feel like he doesn't have nobody you know so like I want him to know that like I've got his back and so I just feel like you know again I know he's a little he's on the bigger side I know but you know I'm not like that worries I don't feel like it's going to ruin his long-term health or anything again I'm sure he'll hit a growth spurt and he'll get taken care of but I just I just would hate for that to be you know a problem in our relationship <7:27:42 PM> Jaliyah Spann - Doctor: about his size <7:27:44 PM> Jaliyah Spann - Doctor: disease <7:28:33 PM> Jaliyah Spann - Doctor: yeah yeah I understand from you that the relationship that you have for Nico you really value it a lot and you don't want to do anything to potentially disturb that so I just kind of want to ask you a question here <7:28:51 PM> Jaliyah Spann - Doctor: you know you had mentioned earlier that you know Nico's a kid and you believe that he'll probably you know grow out of it and he'll get a bit taller and maybe his weight could even out a bit more so um <7:29:02 PM> Jaliyah Spann - Doctor: what would kind of be your reaction or your thoughts if that didn't happen for Nico if Nico kind of never leveled out like you believe that most kids do <7:29:13 PM> James Rogers - Patient: um <7:29:15 PM> James Rogers - Patient: obvious <7:29:15 PM> James Rogers - Patient: you know I guess that's a tough one <7:29:19 PM> James Rogers - Patient: see I want to put them in sports and you know do the type of things that will help out with that I mean if he's you know <7:29:25 PM> James Rogers - Patient: 13 14 and we're still having these problems maybe I start to talk you know maybe I'd bring it up but I mean I'd be lying to you if I said I wanted to because I don't you know and once he's you know 16 17 18 he's kind of an adult at that point <7:29:28 PM> Jaliyah Spann - Doctor: yeah <7:29:39 PM> Jaliyah Spann - Doctor: yeah I definitely think that makes sense because that's kind of far to talk about in the future <7:29:45 PM> James Rogers - Patient: you know that's 10 years out I really I don't want to be so worried about the future you know that I do something wrong now <7:30:00 PM> Paul Hershberger: we'll stop here <7:30:00 PM> Jaliyah Spann - Doctor: Nico ever oh sorry <7:30:03 PM> Jaliyah Spann - Doctor: yeah <7:30:05 PM> Jaliyah Spann - Doctor: that is so hard ________________________________________________________________________________ End of transcript at Apr 29, 2025, 7:30:10 PM
