Doctor: George okay I did want to chat a little bit about George's wait looks like his BMI or his weight particularly was in the 98th percentile so pretty high for his age <1:51:03 PM> Mukund-Patient: yeah <1:51:05 PM> Tanner - Doctor: do you ever have concerns about that <1:51:08 PM> Mukund-Patient: uh definitely you know <1:51:10 PM> Tanner - Doctor: okay what kind of things about his weight concerns you <1:51:14 PM> Mukund-Patient: he's it's not lost on us it's not lost on him that he's a bit of a <1:51:20 PM> Mukund-Patient: your fella and I think I want him to you know come down to a regular way <1:51:29 PM> Mukund-Patient: um well firstly he gets bullied a lot and you know no one wants to see their child get bullied you know it's heartbreaking <1:51:33 PM> Tanner - Doctor: right <1:51:43 PM> Tanner - Doctor: mm-hmm <1:51:44 PM> Mukund-Patient: but apart from that you know it's <1:51:45 PM> Tanner - Doctor: yeah parenting is very difficult you know you have <1:51:48 PM> Mukund-Patient: for the <1:51:48 PM> Mukund-Patient: going to be harder for him going forward in life if you were to you know kind of keep this weight <1:51:55 PM> Mukund-Patient: rest of his life he'll start developing or issues with health with <1:52:03 PM> Mukund-Patient: how people treat him things like that <1:52:06 PM> Mukund-Patient: here <1:52:11 PM> Tanner - Doctor: child who's like your heart and you send them away and they <1:52:11 PM> Tanner - Doctor: you know <1:52:16 PM> Tanner - Doctor: have to go out into the world and there's a lot of things that you can't necessarily control sounds like you are concerned about socially him being you know bullied by friends as well as the long-term Health outcomes or health consequences from his way <1:52:22 PM> Mukund-Patient: services <1:52:29 PM> Mukund-Patient: I'm good yeah and again I'm sure some of those long-term consequences can be reversed because he's what like eight so I'm sure like some of those effects would go away by the time he's like 30 he locks it in <1:52:34 PM> Tanner - Doctor: mm-hmm <1:52:43 PM> Tanner - Doctor: and buy locks it and you mean lose the weight <1:52:48 PM> Mukund-Patient: mm-hmm <1:52:52 PM> Tanner - Doctor: it yeah I think I think you're right I think <1:52:55 PM> Tanner - Doctor: definitely you know he's very young as his entire life ahead of him and obviously would be healthy to try to bring down the weight <1:52:55 PM> Tanner - Doctor: what kind <1:52:56 PM> Mukund-Patient: it's <1:52:57 PM> Mukund-Patient: here <1:53:02 PM> Mukund-Patient: he's a signature and I can represent <1:53:03 PM> Tanner - Doctor: things have been difficult <1:53:06 PM> Tanner - Doctor: regard to because it sounds like this has been a concern for you <1:53:08 PM> Mukund-Patient: I think it's <1:53:11 PM> Tanner - Doctor: what kind of things have been difficult in trying to manage his weight <1:53:13 PM> Mukund-Patient: yeah he he's really picky about what he eats he <1:53:20 PM> Mukund-Patient: if there's any vegetables on his plate <1:53:24 PM> Mukund-Patient: like <1:53:26 PM> Mukund-Patient: corn or peas or something he'll absolutely not touch it and we'll just ask for more mashed potatoes <1:53:27 PM> Tanner - Doctor: mmm <1:53:35 PM> Mukund-Patient: if we send them to school with you know like a bag of carrots <1:53:43 PM> Tanner - Doctor: okay <1:53:43 PM> Mukund-Patient: Hill he'll steal a bag of chips instead you know <1:53:49 PM> Mukund-Patient: right <1:53:50 PM> Tanner - Doctor: um <1:53:52 PM> Tanner - Doctor: like you've tried things <1:53:53 PM> Mukund-Patient: yeah I really don't know what to do anymore with him <1:53:54 PM> Tanner - Doctor: you mentioned a little bit of the <1:53:54 PM> Tanner - Doctor: you know <1:54:01 PM> Tanner - Doctor: up sending him with healthy foods or putting vegetables in front of them is there anything else that you guys have tried to help him <1:54:09 PM> Mukund-Patient: like you <1:54:09 PM> Tanner - Doctor: eat better and be more active <1:54:12 PM> Tanner - Doctor: mmm <1:54:14 PM> Mukund-Patient: um we've tried <1:54:17 PM> Mukund-Patient: saying like oh every time you clear your plate of the vegetables as you eat it will <1:54:27 PM> Mukund-Patient: um let you have a piece of candy you know kind of balance that out but unfortunately he always figures out where the candy is so we can't hide it from him anymore <1:54:38 PM> Mukund-Patient: right <1:54:39 PM> Tanner - Doctor: he started to drink soda is that correct <1:54:42 PM> Tanner - Doctor: um if I'm interpreting this correctly and you can correct me if I'm wrong sounds like you and your wife are pretty motivated to try to help him <1:54:44 PM> Mukund-Patient: yes <1:54:54 PM> Tanner - Doctor: weight is that correct <1:54:56 PM> Tanner - Doctor: if you had to put it on a scale of one to 10 10 being extremely motivated zero being not motivated at all what do you think you would say for your motivation <1:54:56 PM> Mukund-Patient: number <1:54:58 PM> Mukund-Patient: like an a <1:55:04 PM> Tanner - Doctor: what about your confidence if 10 is I'm completely confident we can do it and 0 I don't think we can do it at all <1:55:07 PM> Mukund-Patient: stuff like three <1:55:14 PM> Tanner - Doctor: okay <1:55:19 PM> Tanner - Doctor: is there anything you can anticipate or what kind of things could you anticipate happening that could give you some increased confidence that you'd be able to succeed in helping and manage his weight <1:55:27 PM> Mukund-Patient: I think if he were to develop that internal drive and motivation to work toward those goals if this was a goal for him not a goal for us I think that would make it a lot more easier and more manageable <1:55:28 PM> Tanner - Doctor: mmm <1:55:38 PM> Tanner - Doctor: mmm <1:55:41 PM> Tanner - Doctor: right <1:55:45 PM> Mukund-Patient: a lot of <1:55:46 PM> Tanner - Doctor: yeah it's difficult with children and they don't have the <1:55:51 PM> Tanner - Doctor: with the same <1:55:52 PM> Mukund-Patient: parents but they do utilize <1:55:55 PM> Tanner - Doctor: internal mental processes to know how to make good decisions or to be able to avoid making bad decisions so it's it's tough in that way <1:55:57 PM> Mukund-Patient: you <1:56:02 PM> Mukund-Patient: mm-hmm <1:56:05 PM> Tanner - Doctor: it sounds like you're very motivated if is there anything you can anticipate happening or what possibly could happen that would cause you to <1:56:16 PM> Tanner - Doctor: drastic changes at the house with in terms of what food you have on hand <1:56:20 PM> Mukund-Patient: um I guess if if you were to develop that motivation itself you know like I think we have tried like you know not just just like not buying some of those things and then he just refused to eat because that's all he want <1:56:21 PM> Tanner - Doctor: mmm <1:56:42 PM> Mukund-Patient: so it's <1:56:43 PM> Tanner - Doctor: here you mentioned some health concerns in the long term and unfortunately diabetes is one of the things that's like increasing in <1:56:44 PM> Mukund-Patient: it's hard I don't know what to do <1:56:47 PM> Mukund-Patient: better <1:56:53 PM> Mukund-Patient: hmm <1:56:56 PM> Tanner - Doctor: prevalence in children <1:56:59 PM> Tanner - Doctor: there any kind of health problem you can anticipate him getting that would cause you to make some more drastic changes <1:57:00 PM> Mukund-Patient: oh I mean I'm sure there are but I just don't know what changes I could make <1:57:07 PM> Tanner - Doctor: mmm <1:57:14 PM> Tanner - Doctor: yeah <1:57:16 PM> Mukund-Patient: how we pack lunch <1:57:19 PM> Tanner - Doctor: like at school does he take launch or does he buy lunch <1:57:26 PM> Tanner - Doctor: pack lunch <1:57:26 PM> Tanner - Doctor: and what kind of <1:57:28 PM> Mukund-Patient: um sandwich and apple some yogurt <1:57:29 PM> Tanner - Doctor: things are you putting in his lunch <1:57:37 PM> Mukund-Patient: um like a Go-Gurt or a Danimals <1:57:44 PM> Mukund-Patient: you we try not to put any like candy or cookies or anything like that but <1:57:44 PM> Mukund-Patient: I think <1:57:45 PM> Tanner - Doctor: what about like you mentioned soda like at home is he getting <1:57:51 PM> Mukund-Patient: he just gets them from other kids <1:57:59 PM> Mukund-Patient: very good <1:58:01 PM> Tanner - Doctor: of snacks and sugary drinks and stuff <1:58:01 PM> Mukund-Patient: I guess he is <1:58:09 PM> Mukund-Patient: yeah I don't really drink soda but my wife does and <1:58:15 PM> Tanner - Doctor: mmm I know I'm talking to you and not your wife but is there any is there <1:58:17 PM> Mukund-Patient: I guess he always gets into her stash of sodas and snacks <1:58:30 PM> Tanner - Doctor: what would make you possibly want to change the <1:58:34 PM> Mukund-Patient: so I <1:58:35 PM> Tanner - Doctor: what you keep at home like to to say <1:58:35 PM> Tanner - Doctor: you know <1:58:39 PM> Tanner - Doctor: we're not going to keep <1:58:41 PM> Tanner - Doctor: soda or candy at the house anymore and go through the difficulties with him of like struggling over that is there anything that could make you more motivated to do that <1:58:44 PM> Mukund-Patient: I think if she and I were to get on the same page of you know what we want to do because I think she's also interested in helping with his weight but at the same time she didn't she doesn't want to lose some of those things that she likes as well so I think if we were to both get on that same page it would <1:58:44 PM> Mukund-Patient: be <1:58:52 PM> Tanner - Doctor: right <1:59:09 PM> Tanner - Doctor: yeah <1:59:13 PM> Mukund-Patient: a lot better or a lot easier for us to to work on this <1:59:17 PM> Tanner - Doctor: yeah I'm sure it's very difficult but what I'm what I'm hearing you say is <1:59:26 PM> Tanner - Doctor: you know you recognize the long term Health consequences the social issues with the bullying but it's difficult fighting with him and we're not quite at the point yet to where Mom would <1:59:39 PM> Tanner - Doctor: is motivated enough to remove those things from her diet or keep them out of the house so that way he doesn't have access to them <1:59:43 PM> Mukund-Patient: it right <1:59:47 PM> Tanner - Doctor: yeah <1:59:51 PM> Tanner - Doctor: there anything that you have at the house that he gets a hold of <1:59:55 PM> Mukund-Patient: um sometimes I really wish he'd get more of a hold of like the celery and carrots I have in the house <1:59:56 PM> Tanner - Doctor: yeah <2:00:04 PM> Mukund-Patient: I don't think he likes them very much <2:00:05 PM> Tanner - Doctor: yeah <2:00:07 PM> Mukund-Patient: I I do have a bit of a sweet tooth I say I have a good amount of like ice cream in the fridge but <2:00:08 PM> Tanner - Doctor: mm-hmm <2:00:15 PM> Mukund-Patient: the ________________________________________________________________________________ End of transcript at May 1, 2025, 2:00:18 PM
