doctor: so pretty Active Child what how is Diet coming along <5:49:21 PM> Trevor - Patient: he's a <5:49:24 PM> Trevor - Patient: you know he eats what he wants to eat um and so you know for me I'm just happy he's eating if he eats <5:49:29 PM> Alex Johnston - doctor: okay <5:49:33 PM> Trevor - Patient: I'm happy he's eating so whatever gets the job done <5:49:37 PM> Trevor - Patient: um you know we try with the home cooked meals but he's he doesn't really you know finish the plate or touch much of the the peas and carrots so he'll pick off of that and then throughout the day you know he has some granola bars and other snacks that he likes to chew on throughout the day so I know he's getting enough food <5:49:39 PM> Alex Johnston - doctor: what is he like to eat <5:49:53 PM> Alex Johnston - doctor: okay <5:50:07 PM> Alex Johnston - doctor: how often are you trying <5:50:10 PM> Alex Johnston - doctor: um these you know peas carrots things like that <5:50:11 PM> Trevor - Patient: yeah I mean every night my wife and I cook meals we kind of alternate so we always make sure to throw a veggie in there of some sort <5:50:14 PM> Alex Johnston - doctor: oh okay and <5:50:27 PM> Alex Johnston - doctor: when it comes to his eating habits <5:50:31 PM> Trevor - Patient: oh yeah I mean he's a he's definitely a snacker <5:50:33 PM> Alex Johnston - doctor: what do you <5:50:34 PM> Alex Johnston - doctor: is he eating throughout the day most of the time what do you notice about him <5:50:40 PM> Alex Johnston - doctor: okay <5:50:43 PM> Trevor - Patient: you know we'll pack him <5:50:46 PM> Trevor - Patient: something when he goes to school in the morning kind of a breakfast snack and I know he gets the lunch there but I'm not sure how much he eats for lunch but he does have kind of an array of snacks throughout the day <5:50:48 PM> Alex Johnston - doctor: okay okay and so from what I understand he's eating <5:50:48 PM> Alex Johnston - doctor: throughout <5:51:05 PM> Alex Johnston - doctor: most of the day snacks but really not many vegetables and doesn't like to try too many new things when it comes to food is that is that correct <5:51:13 PM> Trevor - Patient: mmm <5:51:16 PM> Trevor - Patient: yeah I think you're right about that he's kind of picky eater so we've just kind of learned to deal with it make sure he gets at least something in him <5:51:19 PM> Alex Johnston - doctor: okay okay and <5:51:26 PM> Trevor - Patient: oh yeah well you know <5:51:29 PM> Alex Johnston - doctor: when it comes to his you know has health is doing fairly well you know we talked about the growth or we showed the growth chart earlier and he's in the 95th percentile for for weight <5:51:29 PM> Alex Johnston - doctor: you know <5:51:47 PM> Alex Johnston - doctor: um What complications do you see <5:51:52 PM> Alex Johnston - doctor: when it comes to being on the having a higher weight as a kid <5:52:00 PM> Trevor - Patient: he gets picked on a little bit for it but you know I think he's just big boned <5:52:07 PM> Trevor - Patient: it from his grandma and he's alignment so you know it kind of helps him out he's just a big kid <5:52:13 PM> Alex Johnston - doctor: okay okay <5:52:15 PM> Trevor - Patient: here <5:52:18 PM> Alex Johnston - doctor: when you say he's being picked on what do you mean <5:52:21 PM> Trevor - Patient: you know he's he's the big kid so you know little kids are poking them on the side and laughing at him and so he he's been bothered by that a little bit you know third grade stuff <5:52:30 PM> Alex Johnston - doctor: oh okay <5:52:34 PM> Alex Johnston - doctor: I'm sorry to hear about that that's that's that can't be fun to go through its for him how does he feel about that <5:52:35 PM> Trevor - Patient: yeah thank you <5:52:38 PM> Trevor - Patient: mmm <5:52:42 PM> Trevor - Patient: um you know he he knows kids are just being mean and maybe not taking it too personally but <5:52:51 PM> Trevor - Patient: hang <5:52:51 PM> Trevor - Patient: he's a little bit embarrassed he has some good friends but you know going to school sometimes I think he my fake a stomach ache sometimes doesn't want to go <5:52:52 PM> Alex Johnston - doctor: okay <5:52:52 PM> Alex Johnston - doctor: and <5:53:01 PM> Trevor - Patient: these other kids <5:53:03 PM> Trevor - Patient: oh <5:53:04 PM> Alex Johnston - doctor: and how does that affect his relationship with food <5:53:09 PM> Trevor - Patient: well you know it's a good point doc um I think <5:53:14 PM> Alex Johnston - doctor: here <5:53:15 PM> Trevor - Patient: you know like I said he snacks a lot but he doesn't really eat these big meals which is surprising for someone his size <5:53:17 PM> Alex Johnston - doctor: okay <5:53:25 PM> Alex Johnston - doctor: and <5:53:28 PM> Alex Johnston - doctor: when it comes to snacking a lot <5:53:32 PM> Alex Johnston - doctor: you think that affects his <5:53:32 PM> Alex Johnston - doctor: his <5:53:32 PM> Trevor - Patient: yeah <5:53:35 PM> Alex Johnston - doctor: wait in things like that <5:53:38 PM> Alex Johnston - doctor: he <5:53:39 PM> Trevor - Patient: you know I don't know because I feel like with snacks he's eating smaller amounts <5:53:44 PM> Trevor - Patient: um <5:53:46 PM> Trevor - Patient: so kind of a surprising that he's such a big kid but <5:53:49 PM> Alex Johnston - doctor: okay and it sounds like you're still you know you're still providing those options which I commend definitely keep doing that because you know <5:53:49 PM> Alex Johnston - doctor: things <5:53:51 PM> Trevor - Patient: you realize they're probably not the healthiest options <5:54:06 PM> Alex Johnston - doctor: change moves change sometimes one day you might you might try those and in find out he likes it so I can I it's you're doing a good job in that aspect <5:54:08 PM> Trevor - Patient: hope <5:54:20 PM> Alex Johnston - doctor: if you <5:54:20 PM> Alex Johnston - doctor: if <5:54:22 PM> Alex Johnston - doctor: word to change how would you change <5:54:25 PM> Alex Johnston - doctor: um the way he eats better kind of give him better structure when it comes to to meals <5:54:31 PM> Trevor - Patient: yeah well I mean I'd like to I'd like him to start it off with a good breakfast that way he's not snacking throughout the morning maybe just more full <5:54:33 PM> Alex Johnston - doctor: okay <5:54:41 PM> Trevor - Patient: um I mean just if you would do breakfast lunch and dinner I think that's a better way to control <5:54:42 PM> Alex Johnston - doctor: okay <5:54:48 PM> Trevor - Patient: options he has in a way <5:54:52 PM> Alex Johnston - doctor: okay and <5:54:56 PM> Alex Johnston - doctor: on a scale of 1 to 10 <5:54:58 PM> Alex Johnston - doctor: How likely do you think he is to implement a change like that <5:55:02 PM> Trevor - Patient: maybe a one or two he likes what he eats and that's kind of the reason we're doing it is because it's what works for him to at least get some food <5:55:04 PM> Alex Johnston - doctor: okay <5:55:08 PM> Alex Johnston - doctor: okay <5:55:16 PM> Alex Johnston - doctor: and you you made that comment at least get some food what happens if he doesn't <5:55:20 PM> Trevor - Patient: pretty <5:55:23 PM> Alex Johnston - doctor: have those those regular snacks <5:55:26 PM> Trevor - Patient: it yo it's <5:55:28 PM> Alex Johnston - doctor: okay <5:55:29 PM> Trevor - Patient: why I don't know if we've even tried that in a few years so I don't I don't know if you'd eat what we provide him <5:55:35 PM> Alex Johnston - doctor: okay <5:55:40 PM> Trevor - Patient: cool <5:55:41 PM> Alex Johnston - doctor: know <5:55:42 PM> Alex Johnston - doctor: by getting his thoughts on on these things which is definitely you know <5:55:42 PM> Alex Johnston - doctor: seen <5:55:50 PM> Alex Johnston - doctor: he's at how his what his feelings are regarding this I think we'd go a long way to build that relationship and <5:56:00 PM> Alex Johnston - doctor: um but <5:56:02 PM> Alex Johnston - doctor: know I think getting thinking about how that that change can help would be you know a great starting point <5:56:12 PM> Alex Johnston - doctor: what <5:56:14 PM> Alex Johnston - doctor: so you talked about eating more meals regularly how can you start that <5:56:21 PM> Trevor - Patient: well one thing his mother and I were discussing with maybe like I said starting off with a good breakfast so getting up a little earlier make sure we do something home cooked something like oatmeal something I'll fill them up so I think really starting with that would be good and then you know maybe he doesn't snack throughout the day and he's hungry for dinner <5:56:40 PM> Alex Johnston - doctor: okay and I agree that sounds like a great starting point and it sounds like you've discussed this with your wife <5:56:45 PM> Trevor - Patient: mm-hmm <5:56:55 PM> Alex Johnston - doctor: um what other thoughts what thoughts does she have <5:56:55 PM> Trevor - Patient: and she's she's more concerned about his health <5:56:58 PM> Alex Johnston - doctor: okay <5:57:03 PM> Trevor - Patient: being at the 95th percentile and I was telling her he's a he's a strong kid so I don't know if that's playing a role <5:57:05 PM> Alex Johnston - doctor: okay <5:57:07 PM> Alex Johnston - doctor: it's such a <5:57:11 PM> Alex Johnston - doctor: okay gotcha <5:57:14 PM> Alex Johnston - doctor: three ________________________________________________________________________________ End of transcript at May 7, 2025, 5:57:18 PM
