doctor joined the conference <6:03:50 PM> Angie Castle joined the conference <6:03:50 PM> Young Jun Park - patient joined the conference <6:03:50 PM> Gus Miller - doctor: hey young June um so I just wanted to bring up to you one concern that I have about your kid so looking at his growth chart his height is perfectly normal he's taller than about half the kids his age which means his weight should all be more than about half the kids is age but his weight is actually in the 90th percentile me it's higher than about 90% of the kids is age it just concerns me a little bit can you tell me a little bit about that maybe <6:03:58 PM> Young Jun Park - patient: here <6:04:32 PM> Young Jun Park - patient: so dark I don't you know like you you tell me I've been struggling with this ever since like I can remember you know he just he's he weighs so much and we've been trying everything we can and nothing's working and it's just so frustrating <6:04:48 PM> Gus Miller - doctor: yeah that's it can definitely be hard parenting especially when you feel like your efforts aren't working can you tell me some of the things that you have tried <6:05:00 PM> Young Jun Park - patient: you know well obviously to lose weight you know you got to eat healthier so we've been trying to give him healthy foods but like he just doesn't eat the healthy foods and he just tries to just eat snacks all day and it's so frustrating and I don't know what to do <6:05:06 PM> Gus Miller - doctor: so what kinds of foods does he like and what kinds of foods does he disliked <6:05:23 PM> Young Jun Park - patient: oh my gosh she's just loves all these Doritos Cheetos you know any type of unhealthy it's like he has a handful of unhealthy snack so you can just like closed his eyes and pick one out and it'll be unhealthy <6:05:36 PM> Young Jun Park - patient: you know he just really doesn't like too many healthy options you know we've tried everything you know we've tried fruits we've tried vegetables we've like tried so many different things and it just hasn't worked out and we just don't know what to do at this point <6:05:37 PM> Gus Miller - doctor: okay and what <6:05:42 PM> Gus Miller - doctor: healthy foods does he enjoy eating <6:05:59 PM> Gus Miller - doctor: here wow so it sounds like you're pretty concerned about your kid as well with you mentioning how many options you've tried is that correct <6:06:10 PM> Young Jun Park - patient: yeah we've tried so many different things and it doesn't help that like he also gets bullied you know outside so you can't even get you know you can't even play with his friends outside because of his weight <6:06:18 PM> Gus Miller - doctor: oh yeah that's <6:06:30 PM> Young Jun Park - patient: Earth <6:06:33 PM> Gus Miller - doctor: is really tough that that happens to a lot of kids or other other people are just mean to them and it it can really affect them emotionally and everything are you able to talk to your kid about that like is he able to is he willing to have those conversations with you <6:06:52 PM> Young Jun Park - patient: now she's like this eight eight year old kid you know he doesn't really like talking about it but you know like I get I can see it you know <6:07:00 PM> Gus Miller - doctor: oh yeah <6:07:04 PM> Gus Miller - doctor: yeah I can't I can definitely see how as a parent especially that you're concerned <6:07:10 PM> Gus Miller - doctor: um so <6:07:14 PM> Gus Miller - doctor: the third thing that I wanted to ask you was <6:07:18 PM> Gus Miller - doctor: I have has anything been even like mildly successful in trying to control his weight in the past <6:07:28 PM> Young Jun Park - patient: well maybe like one thing like he really likes swimming and so when we took him out to the pool a lot you know like it was it's just been really good you know he was able to get lots of exercise but you know ever since like the pandemic and everything closed we kind of just like fell out of swimming and stuff <6:07:28 PM> Gus Miller - doctor: quick <6:07:39 PM> Gus Miller - doctor: oh okay <6:07:51 PM> Gus Miller - doctor: now that some are starting to roll around again do you think you guys will go to the pool more often <6:07:56 PM> Young Jun Park - patient: I mean maybe but it's just really hard you know to like get in there initially because you know he's concerned about the bullying <6:07:57 PM> Gus Miller - doctor: what <6:07:57 PM> Gus Miller - doctor: here <6:08:07 PM> Young Jun Park - patient: and kind of you know that thing so we've been trying as well <6:08:15 PM> Gus Miller - doctor: you say you're more concerned about his weight or the fact that he's being bullied <6:08:21 PM> Young Jun Park - patient: I think mostly for me it's the way because we can reduce the weight we can reduce the bowling <6:08:25 PM> Gus Miller - doctor: okay and on a scale of 1 to 10 with 10 being the most concerned possible How concerned are you about his weight right now <6:08:36 PM> Young Jun Park - patient: I'm a dog I'm a 12 out of 10 right now let me tell you I am so concerned <6:08:43 PM> Gus Miller - doctor: what is your biggest learn about it <6:08:47 PM> Young Jun Park - patient: well you know wait you know waking like yeah he's getting bullied in school that's gonna cause a lot of social problems you know it's not good for his <6:08:56 PM> Gus Miller - doctor: mm-hmm yeah it definitely it can be frustrated when we feel like we're in this rock and a hard place situation <6:08:58 PM> Young Jun Park - patient: health is if you just only tries to eat snacks like I don't know what to do <6:09:15 PM> Gus Miller - doctor: so what what does his diet look like like for instance when you pack his lunch for school what does it look like <6:09:23 PM> Young Jun Park - patient: usually don't pack his lunch I'm usually buys it at the school <6:09:24 PM> Gus Miller - doctor: okay do you know what the what they provide at the school <6:09:28 PM> Young Jun Park - patient: yeah I think like hamburgers fries you know like chips things like that <6:09:34 PM> Gus Miller - doctor: here and <6:09:41 PM> Gus Miller - doctor: yeah and they can be difficult kids because probably a lot of their peers are eating the same thing and especially if some of the kids are making fun of them maybe he wants to fit in and eat what the other kids are eating <6:09:54 PM> Young Jun Park - patient: yeah you know that's it you know I just got a you know idea to you think maybe if I packed lunch that'll help like I don't know I'm just willing to try anything at this point <6:10:03 PM> Gus Miller - doctor: yeah I think <6:10:10 PM> Gus Miller - doctor: think packing lunches would help what <6:10:15 PM> Gus Miller - doctor: I think it'd be good though to <6:10:15 PM> Gus Miller - doctor: to <6:10:18 PM> Gus Miller - doctor: a game plan for what you would Pat him do you have any ideas and if if you if nothing comes to mind we can try to like think of something together but do you have any idea what you might try to pack him if you were to <6:10:30 PM> Young Jun Park - patient: I'm not here I'm not really sure what I should pack and Doc <6:10:32 PM> Gus Miller - doctor: okay <6:10:35 PM> Young Jun Park - patient: like what do you recommend like I just you know I'm not really too sure maybe I can pack him some you know maybe apples I can pack him some veggies you know maybe I can you know pack in some peanut butter as well for the and celery maybe that'll help him maybe I can pack them PB&J like I don't know <6:10:59 PM> Gus Miller - doctor: yeah I think any of those sound like good options it really just has to be something that he enjoys obviously like <6:10:59 PM> Gus Miller - doctor: he <6:11:08 PM> Gus Miller - doctor: like most fruits and vegetables but what is like an example of let's say one fruit that he does actually like eating <6:11:16 PM> Young Jun Park - patient: aggressively likes I guess like bananas but you know I think you know I could pack them some bananas I guess <6:11:27 PM> Gus Miller - doctor: yeah I think it'd be good to definitely pack him a banana and then maybe as like <6:11:36 PM> Gus Miller - doctor: Andrew you said he likes peanut butter and things like that <6:11:40 PM> Young Jun Park - patient: actually likes peanut butter um <6:11:41 PM> Gus Miller - doctor: yeah I mean <6:11:44 PM> Young Jun Park - patient: so I don't know if I can do something with the peanut butter <6:11:51 PM> Gus Miller - doctor: you could like if you like apples you could do like an apple and peanut butter and celery and peanut butter something like that those are options if you would like those Foods because <6:12:04 PM> Gus Miller - doctor: especially if you try to buy a like low-fat peanut butter it can actually be pretty healthy and there's a lot of protein <6:12:11 PM> Young Jun Park - patient: so I didn't even realize that there was something called low fat peanut butter okay that's actually really like good to know me that I can try that out <6:12:13 PM> Gus Miller - doctor: yeah yeah and I think <6:12:24 PM> Gus Miller - doctor: he is willing to eat those options or at least keep them away from some of the candies or some of the hamburgers and fries <6:12:34 PM> Gus Miller - doctor: um so just any improvements are good you know <6:12:36 PM> Young Jun Park - patient: okay well <6:12:42 PM> Young Jun Park - patient: love to see you know <6:12:42 PM> Young Jun Park - patient: but ________________________________________________________________________________ End of transcript at Jun 9, 2025, 6:12:48 PM
