Doctor: why or what gives you happiness in your life <1:17:46 PM> Paul Hershberger - Patient: being with my my wife and we've got two kids <1:17:46 PM> Paul Hershberger - Patient: so <1:17:52 PM> Paul Hershberger - Patient: of and as they get older I find them more fun <1:17:58 PM> Paul Hershberger - Patient: so that's a good thing <1:18:01 PM> Paul Hershberger - Patient: what else <1:18:03 PM> Paul Hershberger - Patient: on the weekends I like to just kind of <1:18:07 PM> Paul Hershberger - Patient: all you know work hard during the week so we can start time for me to just <1:18:12 PM> Kevin - Doctor: okay yeah that sounds good I'm glad you have a good relationship with your kids <1:18:12 PM> Kevin - Doctor: um <1:18:13 PM> Paul Hershberger - Patient: going to do what I want and not have much responsibility <1:18:17 PM> Paul Hershberger - Patient: sure sure <1:18:24 PM> Kevin - Doctor: so I saw that some of your I'm drinking history is it okay if we review some of those things together <1:18:31 PM> Kevin - Doctor: okay um just tell me a little bit more about your alcohol use so you said you don't do any during the week but yes on the weekends just tell me a little bit more <1:18:33 PM> Paul Hershberger - Patient: oh yeah on the weekends it's time to just kind of kick back and so <1:18:50 PM> Paul Hershberger - Patient: sometimes I'm with friends we're going out to bar club or something or I'm just at home and so Friday night <1:19:01 PM> Paul Hershberger - Patient: um you know like I said I've not had anything during the week so Friday night I <1:19:06 PM> Paul Hershberger - Patient: few drinks and <1:19:06 PM> Paul Hershberger - Patient: usually <1:19:07 PM> Kevin - Doctor: okay um how many drinks <1:19:08 PM> Paul Hershberger - Patient: Saturday as well sometimes Sundays but mostly Friday nights Saturday <1:19:15 PM> Paul Hershberger - Patient: ah gosh I don't even count <1:19:19 PM> Kevin - Doctor: there's times that you're going out are you having <1:19:28 PM> Paul Hershberger - Patient: I don't know I probably at least six <1:19:35 PM> Paul Hershberger - Patient: Friday night Saturday night <1:19:38 PM> Paul Hershberger - Patient: Exile I'll go through at least a six pack if I'm alone <1:19:42 PM> Paul Hershberger - Patient: you know sometimes <1:19:45 PM> Paul Hershberger - Patient: you kind of get a buzz on you're really not <1:19:46 PM> Kevin - Doctor: yeah how long have you has this been going on <1:19:48 PM> Paul Hershberger - Patient: paying attention to how much more you're drinking so <1:19:53 PM> Paul Hershberger - Patient: people <1:20:02 PM> Paul Hershberger - Patient: well you know when I was in college I <1:20:05 PM> Paul Hershberger - Patient: drank quite a bit then you know it didn't matter what day of the week it was <1:20:11 PM> Paul Hershberger - Patient: um I guess since I <1:20:14 PM> Paul Hershberger - Patient: when I got out of college and <1:20:16 PM> Paul Hershberger - Patient: got a job <1:20:18 PM> Paul Hershberger - Patient: I think I think initially I probably would drink some during the week but I just figure I got to the point where I need to be Sharp <1:20:28 PM> Paul Hershberger - Patient: the week so I thought I need to cut that out so I don't know there's not really been a time <1:20:35 PM> Paul Hershberger - Patient: so <1:20:35 PM> Paul Hershberger - Patient: that I didn't drink at all <1:20:38 PM> Paul Hershberger - Patient: so I probably been in this pattern for a number of years <1:20:39 PM> Kevin - Doctor: I think it's good that you were able to make that call to not work or sorry not drink while you're working during the work week <1:20:52 PM> Kevin - Doctor: but I think the amount that you're drinking during the weekend does kind of go outside of the like low risk limits that we tell our patients <1:21:02 PM> Kevin - Doctor: there's <1:21:02 PM> Kevin - Doctor: and you know I just like to share with you a little bit about that so what we'd like to <1:21:09 PM> Kevin - Doctor: different metrics that we can use but the one we let go with is that for females no more than seven drinks per week <1:21:19 PM> Kevin - Doctor: and no more than three at one time so during those weekends it sounds like we are <1:21:27 PM> Kevin - Doctor: just above that three drink threshold so it's great that you're able to make that change for the week but I mean I do recommend that patients not go above that three drink limit <1:21:42 PM> Kevin - Doctor: um what does that sound like to you does that evoke any thoughts <1:21:48 PM> Paul Hershberger - Patient: I <1:21:48 PM> Paul Hershberger - Patient: um <1:21:51 PM> Paul Hershberger - Patient: you know I really don't think it's that big of a deal I <1:21:54 PM> Paul Hershberger - Patient: having any problems <1:21:57 PM> Paul Hershberger - Patient: early with with my drinking so <1:22:00 PM> Paul Hershberger - Patient: you know I realize <1:22:02 PM> Paul Hershberger - Patient: hot you know I guess I would expect you as a doctor to <1:22:06 PM> Paul Hershberger - Patient: want me to not drink much but <1:22:10 PM> Paul Hershberger - Patient: I don't know I I'd be I guess I'd be more concerned if I was drinking during the week as well <1:22:16 PM> Paul Hershberger - Patient: since I you know it's not like I'm <1:22:19 PM> Paul Hershberger - Patient: an alcoholic I don't have to <1:22:22 PM> Paul Hershberger - Patient: drinking every day <1:22:24 PM> Kevin - Doctor: sure what is your does anybody in your family ever say anything about your drinking I know you're pretty close with your kids <1:22:37 PM> Paul Hershberger - Patient: yeah my kids are like eight and ten so <1:22:41 PM> Paul Hershberger - Patient: and they've never said anything I my wife drinks some she doesn't drink like I do but <1:22:47 PM> Paul Hershberger - Patient: hi there's probably times where she would <1:22:53 PM> Paul Hershberger - Patient: like it if I wasn't drinking so much because I'm <1:23:01 PM> Paul Hershberger - Patient: kind of worthless on Saturday and Sunday in terms of <1:23:05 PM> Paul Hershberger - Patient: getting anything done <1:23:07 PM> Paul Hershberger - Patient: so <1:23:09 PM> Paul Hershberger - Patient: she probably would like it that if I didn't drink as much it's not like she's on my case about all the time now <1:23:10 PM> Kevin - Doctor: yeah yeah that's not surprising with the such a repetitive Behavior but kind of encouraging that you have that support in your life <1:23:30 PM> Kevin - Doctor: what is there any negative like consequences that you're concerned about <1:23:39 PM> Paul Hershberger - Patient: hi <1:23:42 PM> Paul Hershberger - Patient: certainly wouldn't want to get a DUI <1:23:45 PM> Paul Hershberger - Patient: um I try to be careful about that I know there have been times where I've <1:23:51 PM> Paul Hershberger - Patient: of an after drinking so so that would probably be my main concern <1:23:53 PM> Kevin - Doctor: yeah I mean as your physician <1:23:56 PM> Paul Hershberger - Patient: but <1:24:02 PM> Kevin - Doctor: definitely care about your safety and <1:24:02 PM> Kevin - Doctor: hearing that <1:24:05 PM> Kevin - Doctor: a little bit <1:24:05 PM> Kevin - Doctor: there could be sometimes when you're driving Under the Influence is <1:24:09 PM> Kevin - Doctor: concerning for me as your physical well-being but also <1:24:15 PM> Kevin - Doctor: it's not good for <1:24:16 PM> Paul Hershberger - Patient: well like I said I <1:24:17 PM> Kevin - Doctor: you were to get <1:24:17 PM> Kevin - Doctor: Financial well-being if <1:24:20 PM> Kevin - Doctor: or if you were worse to get in an accident or hurt someone else that could be <1:24:20 PM> Kevin - Doctor: could <1:24:25 PM> Kevin - Doctor: pretty tragic <1:24:27 PM> Kevin - Doctor: it what do you like about your drinking <1:24:37 PM> Paul Hershberger - Patient: after working hard during the week it's sort of like <1:24:41 PM> Paul Hershberger - Patient: after a couple of drinks I'm not thinking about much of anything other than <1:24:46 PM> Paul Hershberger - Patient: having a good time or <1:24:48 PM> Kevin - Doctor: sure <1:24:48 PM> Paul Hershberger - Patient: you know if I'm watching sports or <1:24:52 PM> Paul Hershberger - Patient: sort <1:24:52 PM> Paul Hershberger - Patient: with buddies or whatever <1:24:54 PM> Paul Hershberger - Patient: Carefree so that's that's the main thing I like and I like the taste <1:24:59 PM> Paul Hershberger - Patient: yeah <1:25:00 PM> Kevin - Doctor: yeah you sound like you work pretty hard during the week and so you know I'm I bet you do feel like you need a break after such a long week so <1:25:11 PM> Kevin - Doctor: it's understandable I can sure <1:25:12 PM> Paul Hershberger - Patient: we'll stop here Kevin <1:25:14 PM> Paul Hershberger - Patient: be <1:25:18 PM> Paul Hershberger - Patient: click a couple things here ________________________________________________________________________________ End of transcript at Jul 15, 2025, 1:25:23 PM
