Doctor joined the conference <1:25:57 PM> Paul Hershberger joined the conference <1:25:57 PM> Faith Neidert - Patient joined the conference <1:26:10 PM> Colleen Doyle - Doctor: all right so I've heard you say a few times now that you're frustrated with your medications <1:26:10 PM> Faith Neidert - Patient: all right so <1:26:15 PM> Faith Neidert - Patient: so <1:26:18 PM> Faith Neidert - Patient: here <1:26:19 PM> Colleen Doyle - Doctor: can you tell me a little bit more about that <1:26:21 PM> Faith Neidert - Patient: can you tell me <1:26:22 PM> Faith Neidert - Patient: um <1:26:25 PM> Colleen Doyle - Doctor: I have <1:26:26 PM> Faith Neidert - Patient: yeah I just I have so many medications that I have to take and it is so hard to keep track of them they have all these different instructions some are supposed to be taken in the morning some at night <1:26:29 PM> Colleen Doyle - Doctor: yes <1:26:33 PM> Colleen Doyle - Doctor: instructor <1:26:37 PM> Colleen Doyle - Doctor: something <1:26:40 PM> Faith Neidert - Patient: food you know there's just so many I like I came and keep track of them all <1:26:43 PM> Colleen Doyle - Doctor: wow <1:26:45 PM> Faith Neidert - Patient: what ways are <1:26:47 PM> Colleen Doyle - Doctor: ways are you keeping track of them now <1:26:49 PM> Faith Neidert - Patient: um <1:26:53 PM> Faith Neidert - Patient: I try I got one of those like pill boxes that has like the days of the week on it <1:26:54 PM> Colleen Doyle - Doctor: go offices <1:26:58 PM> Colleen Doyle - Doctor: the <1:26:59 PM> Colleen Doyle - Doctor: it's interesting <1:27:00 PM> Faith Neidert - Patient: and so I'm been trying to use that <1:27:05 PM> Colleen Doyle - Doctor: but it's <1:27:05 PM> Faith Neidert - Patient: but it's hard <1:27:07 PM> Colleen Doyle - Doctor: like <1:27:07 PM> Faith Neidert - Patient: like when I'm trying to put all the pills in the pill box <1:27:11 PM> Colleen Doyle - Doctor: because <1:27:13 PM> Faith Neidert - Patient: because it's like I don't know <1:27:13 PM> Faith Neidert - Patient: which <1:27:15 PM> Colleen Doyle - Doctor: which one <1:27:15 PM> Faith Neidert - Patient: one is which then after I put it in the box if that makes sense <1:27:16 PM> Colleen Doyle - Doctor: that we <1:27:19 PM> Colleen Doyle - Doctor: fig <1:27:19 PM> Colleen Doyle - Doctor: okay so what I'm hearing is you're having trouble <1:27:20 PM> Faith Neidert - Patient: and so what I'm <1:27:22 PM> Faith Neidert - Patient: figuring out what <1:27:24 PM> Colleen Doyle - Doctor: out which pills are in the pillbox because they're out of the bottle and it's just like hard every week to put them in separate pill and into the separate spots and <1:27:26 PM> Faith Neidert - Patient: just like hard <1:27:30 PM> Faith Neidert - Patient: it's yeah and like some of them you know it's like what do I do with my like as needed medications or like some of them <1:27:34 PM> Colleen Doyle - Doctor: of <1:27:41 PM> Faith Neidert - Patient: if it's three times a day but the pill box only has a.m. and p.m. then where do I put it <1:27:46 PM> Colleen Doyle - Doctor: yeah those are really common and really frustrating things about medications is that <1:27:46 PM> Faith Neidert - Patient: yeah really <1:27:49 PM> Faith Neidert - Patient: industry <1:27:51 PM> Faith Neidert - Patient: design <1:27:53 PM> Colleen Doyle - Doctor: is that your main frustration do you have other reasons why you feel like you're not able to take your medications consistently <1:27:53 PM> Faith Neidert - Patient: is that your me <1:27:58 PM> Faith Neidert - Patient: something <1:28:01 PM> Faith Neidert - Patient: oh I think I also just I just have so many and I just <1:28:03 PM> Colleen Doyle - Doctor: I just have <1:28:06 PM> Colleen Doyle - Doctor: don't <1:28:06 PM> Faith Neidert - Patient: don't like taking that many like it just feels <1:28:09 PM> Colleen Doyle - Doctor: like <1:28:10 PM> Faith Neidert - Patient: like a lot of work I guess and I know that I need to take them <1:28:14 PM> Colleen Doyle - Doctor: but it's just <1:28:15 PM> Faith Neidert - Patient: but it's just exhausting like day after day trying to find all my pills and like <1:28:18 PM> Colleen Doyle - Doctor: time <1:28:21 PM> Colleen Doyle - Doctor: takes a lot yeah it sounds like a lot and I definitely feel for you <1:28:22 PM> Faith Neidert - Patient: take six pills at a time just a lot <1:28:26 PM> Faith Neidert - Patient: you <1:28:30 PM> Faith Neidert - Patient: and what we <1:28:31 PM> Colleen Doyle - Doctor: ways do you think you mentioned you need these medications like <1:28:34 PM> Faith Neidert - Patient: why do you mean <1:28:36 PM> Colleen Doyle - Doctor: why do you need them what happens if you don't take them <1:28:37 PM> Faith Neidert - Patient: that happens is <1:28:39 PM> Faith Neidert - Patient: well I don't take like my diabetes medications then I'm going to have <1:28:39 PM> Colleen Doyle - Doctor: for them because <1:28:43 PM> Colleen Doyle - Doctor: I would <1:28:45 PM> Faith Neidert - Patient: high blood sugar <1:28:47 PM> Colleen Doyle - Doctor: jury <1:28:47 PM> Faith Neidert - Patient: then next time I'm here you guys are going to be like <1:28:50 PM> Faith Neidert - Patient: your A1c to I <1:28:51 PM> Colleen Doyle - Doctor: say <1:28:51 PM> Colleen Doyle - Doctor: well besides the fact that I'm gonna say something about it because I want you to be healthy are there other things that can happen if your A1C UI or you don't take <1:28:52 PM> Faith Neidert - Patient: well besides say something <1:28:58 PM> Faith Neidert - Patient: come <1:29:03 PM> Faith Neidert - Patient: say your parts <1:29:05 PM> Colleen Doyle - Doctor: you're you're a tour of a Statin or something like that I know it's hard to think about in the moment but <1:29:08 PM> Faith Neidert - Patient: you <1:29:11 PM> Faith Neidert - Patient: which <1:29:11 PM> Faith Neidert - Patient: yeah <1:29:11 PM> Colleen Doyle - Doctor: yeah <1:29:13 PM> Colleen Doyle - Doctor: which <1:29:14 PM> Faith Neidert - Patient: the atorvastatin <1:29:15 PM> Colleen Doyle - Doctor: that's the one you take for your your cholesterol in your your <1:29:16 PM> Faith Neidert - Patient: that's the one you <1:29:18 PM> Faith Neidert - Patient: quality <1:29:22 PM> Faith Neidert - Patient: I feel like with <1:29:23 PM> Colleen Doyle - Doctor: those <1:29:24 PM> Faith Neidert - Patient: those meds it's kind of hard to <1:29:27 PM> Colleen Doyle - Doctor: like <1:29:28 PM> Faith Neidert - Patient: like motivate myself to take them because <1:29:31 PM> Colleen Doyle - Doctor: I don't <1:29:33 PM> Faith Neidert - Patient: if I <1:29:33 PM> Faith Neidert - Patient: don't feel any immediate effects like <1:29:34 PM> Colleen Doyle - Doctor: like <1:29:37 PM> Faith Neidert - Patient: out take my diabetes meds <1:29:39 PM> Colleen Doyle - Doctor: like <1:29:40 PM> Faith Neidert - Patient: like I can tell you know like if my blood sugar is too high or <1:29:45 PM> Colleen Doyle - Doctor: like <1:29:45 PM> Colleen Doyle - Doctor: it <1:29:45 PM> Faith Neidert - Patient: know kind of feel like crap or like if my blood pressure is too high I can usually you know <1:29:49 PM> Colleen Doyle - Doctor: practice <1:29:52 PM> Faith Neidert - Patient: say like have a headache or something <1:29:52 PM> Faith Neidert - Patient: but <1:29:54 PM> Colleen Doyle - Doctor: but <1:29:55 PM> Faith Neidert - Patient: it with like the lipid and the other heart meds <1:29:57 PM> Colleen Doyle - Doctor: if I don't <1:30:00 PM> Faith Neidert - Patient: if I don't take them I don't feel any different <1:30:01 PM> Colleen Doyle - Doctor: mm-hmm <1:30:03 PM> Faith Neidert - Patient: it's like why am I taking them <1:30:05 PM> Colleen Doyle - Doctor: so you like that you can feel the immediate <1:30:07 PM> Faith Neidert - Patient: to you <1:30:10 PM> Colleen Doyle - Doctor: result this other ones <1:30:10 PM> Faith Neidert - Patient: yeah <1:30:12 PM> Faith Neidert - Patient: yeah I guess it just gives me like <1:30:13 PM> Colleen Doyle - Doctor: you know I just <1:30:15 PM> Faith Neidert - Patient: you know I just feel like there's a purpose for taking those ones <1:30:17 PM> Colleen Doyle - Doctor: yeah and if you <1:30:19 PM> Faith Neidert - Patient: and <1:30:19 PM> Faith Neidert - Patient: so <1:30:22 PM> Colleen Doyle - Doctor: if you start taking your Statin altogether the lipid the one for your lipids <1:30:25 PM> Faith Neidert - Patient: what do you think <1:30:27 PM> Colleen Doyle - Doctor: what do you think in the long term <1:30:30 PM> Colleen Doyle - Doctor: you it would make you feel like <1:30:33 PM> Colleen Doyle - Doctor: I don't know <1:30:34 PM> Faith Neidert - Patient: I don't know you guys tell me that if I don't take it then I could have a heart attack so <1:30:40 PM> Colleen Doyle - Doctor: yeah <1:30:40 PM> Colleen Doyle - Doctor: I guess I'm <1:30:41 PM> Faith Neidert - Patient: as I wouldn't feel good <1:30:43 PM> Faith Neidert - Patient: If I Had a Heart <1:30:44 PM> Faith Neidert - Patient: was gonna say <1:30:44 PM> Colleen Doyle - Doctor: going to say what ways do you think that that would affect your life <1:30:46 PM> Faith Neidert - Patient: um <1:30:48 PM> Colleen Doyle - Doctor: um <1:30:50 PM> Colleen Doyle - Doctor: well <1:30:51 PM> Faith Neidert - Patient: well wouldn't be good because I'd probably have to be in the hospital and that's a lot of money and like who's gonna take care of my cats if I'm in the hospital <1:30:53 PM> Colleen Doyle - Doctor: yeah that's a lot <1:31:02 PM> Faith Neidert - Patient: so you know and then I'd have to like go see <1:31:06 PM> Colleen Doyle - Doctor: another <1:31:07 PM> Faith Neidert - Patient: another doctor probably after that <1:31:08 PM> Colleen Doyle - Doctor: probably you <1:31:10 PM> Faith Neidert - Patient: he probably be on more meds <1:31:12 PM> Colleen Doyle - Doctor: if you <1:31:12 PM> Colleen Doyle - Doctor: right it sounds like it's kind of this vicious cycle where <1:31:13 PM> Faith Neidert - Patient: you <1:31:14 PM> Faith Neidert - Patient: this <1:31:17 PM> Colleen Doyle - Doctor: you <1:31:17 PM> Colleen Doyle - Doctor: stop taking them <1:31:17 PM> Faith Neidert - Patient: you have <1:31:19 PM> Colleen Doyle - Doctor: have all these things happen and then you have to end up taking more <1:31:23 PM> Faith Neidert - Patient: so what <1:31:23 PM> Colleen Doyle - Doctor: so what <1:31:25 PM> Faith Neidert - Patient: goals that today <1:31:25 PM> Colleen Doyle - Doctor: goals do you think we can set today to help you prevent <1:31:29 PM> Colleen Doyle - Doctor: getting into a vicious cycle like that <1:31:30 PM> Faith Neidert - Patient: into <1:31:32 PM> Colleen Doyle - Doctor: actually <1:31:35 PM> Colleen Doyle - Doctor: I don't know he <1:31:38 PM> Faith Neidert - Patient: I don't know making myself take my <1:31:43 PM> Faith Neidert - Patient: vacations now <1:31:43 PM> Colleen Doyle - Doctor: yeah so let's think back to some of those <1:31:46 PM> Faith Neidert - Patient: yeah so <1:31:49 PM> Faith Neidert - Patient: problems that <1:31:49 PM> Colleen Doyle - Doctor: problems that you're having the frustrations with not recognizing your pills or being frustrated with putting them in the pill box <1:31:53 PM> Faith Neidert - Patient: recognize <1:31:55 PM> Faith Neidert - Patient: frustrated <1:31:58 PM> Faith Neidert - Patient: have you ever <1:31:58 PM> Colleen Doyle - Doctor: have you ever heard of pill packs like the daily pill packs <1:32:00 PM> Faith Neidert - Patient: know <1:32:03 PM> Colleen Doyle - Doctor: so sometimes through Medicare I think you can get it or other things they'll send you their prepackaged your AM and PM meds you don't have to think about it they do all the pills sorting for you and you just take your little packet in the morning and you take it in the evening and they're dated and they have <1:32:04 PM> Faith Neidert - Patient: so sometimes okay thank you <1:32:17 PM> Faith Neidert - Patient: you <1:32:21 PM> Faith Neidert - Patient: you can get it just yes yes very much so <1:32:22 PM> Colleen Doyle - Doctor: you can identify every pill that's in there and it just makes it a little easier is that something that sounds like it would help with having <1:32:33 PM> Colleen Doyle - Doctor: okay <1:32:36 PM> Colleen Doyle - Doctor: and what ways do you think that would help with the problems we've been having <1:32:36 PM> Faith Neidert - Patient: and what was <1:32:40 PM> Faith Neidert - Patient: person I think it would <1:32:41 PM> Paul Hershberger: we'll stop here in the interest of time <1:32:45 PM> Faith Neidert - Patient: being nice ________________________________________________________________________________ End of transcript at Aug 25, 2025, 1:32:51 PM
