Patient joined the conference <2:27:46 PM> Brad LeHoty - Doctor joined the conference <2:27:46 PM> Angie joined the conference <2:27:47 PM> Brad LeHoty - Doctor: okay families thanks for coming in it looks like you're here for some refills so can you tell me about what's been going on with the medications <2:27:58 PM> Brad LeHoty - Doctor: you're muted <2:28:03 PM> Emily Chen - Patient: I'm just <2:28:03 PM> Emily Chen - Patient: oh thanks yeah so you know I'm on like so many medications for all my health conditions and it just so confusing like I have to pick up this refill I have to pick up that refill and then once I get it the words are so small I don't even know what what and then I'm just so confused on like when I take what like this many milligrams for that and I'm just like oh it's just all jumbled in my head and I'm just not taking some of them and I don't even know like what I'm supposed to do so <2:28:26 PM> Brad LeHoty - Doctor: absolutely it sounds sounds frustrating <2:28:37 PM> Emily Chen - Patient: tired of it <2:28:38 PM> Emily Chen - Patient: I don't even know like when I go pick up something I don't even know which one that is and like my daughter has gotten me those like you know the organizers the medication organizers and I'm like I don't even know how many to put in <2:28:41 PM> Brad LeHoty - Doctor: so what what kind of things bother you about it besides like the smaller what is what in particular is the most important thing to you <2:29:04 PM> Emily Chen - Patient: each one so I'm just like I think I'm taking it right but I don't even know and then sometimes my dosing is that nice sometimes it's during the day <2:29:07 PM> Brad LeHoty - Doctor: oh okay <2:29:13 PM> Emily Chen - Patient: and it's just annoying to have to take them and like stop my routine and have to go like take my medications out I don't even know if I'm actually supposed to be taking at the time <2:29:22 PM> Brad LeHoty - Doctor: absolutely and first of all I want to say this is like a very valid concern I have had other patients that have expressed the same concern <2:29:24 PM> Emily Chen - Patient: yeah I mean she's kind of like <2:29:31 PM> Brad LeHoty - Doctor: um it sounds like you have a good support system with your daughter there can you kind of describe how she's been helping you <2:29:41 PM> Emily Chen - Patient: well first of all she bought me the organizer which definitely helps so that throughout the week I just opened up my Monday one take all the medication in there but I guess the initial sorting it in is kind of difficult for me and I just like I just feel like I just see a lot of medications and I'm just like oh my gosh that reminds me of all the problems I have <2:29:42 PM> Brad LeHoty - Doctor: okay <2:30:08 PM> Emily Chen - Patient: um and it makes me less motivated because I'm like well everything's <2:30:09 PM> Brad LeHoty - Doctor: okay <2:30:15 PM> Emily Chen - Patient: failing <2:30:17 PM> Emily Chen - Patient: um <2:30:20 PM> Brad LeHoty - Doctor: it's interesting so it sounds again pretty frustrating but why if I may ask why haven't you stopped fully taking up <2:30:20 PM> Emily Chen - Patient: what's the point of even taking them anymore <2:30:31 PM> Emily Chen - Patient: oh well like I said you know my daughter really cares about me similar with my spouse <2:30:31 PM> Emily Chen - Patient: and <2:30:43 PM> Emily Chen - Patient: and you know I feel like they're trying to do everything they can to help me and I feel like if I just gave up then you know that's kind of a waste of like their efforts and obviously I see that they care about me and I still want to be here <2:30:55 PM> Brad LeHoty - Doctor: absolutely so you said the word still want to be here tell me tell me why like what does that mean to you <2:30:56 PM> Emily Chen - Patient: um so I've been like trying to take my medications but it's just been hard and frustrating and I just don't know what to do next <2:31:05 PM> Emily Chen - Patient: oh yeah well I mean obviously I don't want to just like pass away <2:31:13 PM> Brad LeHoty - Doctor: okay <2:31:18 PM> Emily Chen - Patient: I still want to spend like some time with my daughter you know she's <2:31:23 PM> Emily Chen - Patient: only got married and think about having kids so I want to see my grandkids <2:31:27 PM> Brad LeHoty - Doctor: congratulations you <2:31:28 PM> Emily Chen - Patient: yeah thank you and so <2:31:33 PM> Emily Chen - Patient: I just you know so I want to spend time with my family and <2:31:33 PM> Brad LeHoty - Doctor: okay <2:31:36 PM> Emily Chen - Patient: here <2:31:38 PM> Brad LeHoty - Doctor: okay and that's that's that sounds like a fantastic reason and I'm glad that that's something that you can kind of anchor on <2:31:46 PM> Brad LeHoty - Doctor: um tell me why you think that like do you think that the meds are helping you to get that goal to achieve that goal <2:31:48 PM> Emily Chen - Patient: yeah I mean I know like for my hypertension it definitely lowers my blood pressure when I take it and like there's an important medications for my corner art disease <2:32:05 PM> Emily Chen - Patient: um so I know they're important like medications work for a reason it's just <2:32:11 PM> Emily Chen - Patient: I just <2:32:11 PM> Emily Chen - Patient: like I don't believe in them I definitely know that they work <2:32:16 PM> Emily Chen - Patient: it's just hard to like take them I guess <2:32:17 PM> Brad LeHoty - Doctor: okay tell me what would change like say from a scale of one to 10 right now how do you feel like you you're be willing to take them at every like interval dose <2:32:29 PM> Emily Chen - Patient: what I mean not every interval <2:32:33 PM> Brad LeHoty - Doctor: like for every dose that's prescribed on the bottle I know it's complicated like saying your daughter puts everything and into the to the Box How likely currently would you be to take everything in that box <2:32:37 PM> Emily Chen - Patient: but <2:32:37 PM> Emily Chen - Patient: probably like that eight or nine <2:32:50 PM> Brad LeHoty - Doctor: okay <2:32:54 PM> Emily Chen - Patient: same time I'm like my daughter is busy so I'm like I don't want to bother her with like everything <2:32:54 PM> Emily Chen - Patient: because <2:33:00 PM> Brad LeHoty - Doctor: okay <2:33:01 PM> Emily Chen - Patient: I say I also have like other problems I rely on her for but I don't want her to do everything for me <2:33:02 PM> Brad LeHoty - Doctor: yeah <2:33:08 PM> Emily Chen - Patient: um so I guess that's where I'm like I also don't want to <2:33:09 PM> Brad LeHoty - Doctor: so tell me how your daughter at least how you think your daughter feels about your situation right now <2:33:13 PM> Emily Chen - Patient: her as well <2:33:15 PM> Emily Chen - Patient: I mean I'm sure she's happy to help it's not like she's complained about it or like shows that she does want to do it for me <2:33:30 PM> Emily Chen - Patient: um she definitely seems like she's like more than happy to help me and I kind of feel bad that I get frustrated even though she is offering help but I just <2:33:33 PM> Brad LeHoty - Doctor: okay <2:33:36 PM> Brad LeHoty - Doctor: mmm <2:33:41 PM> Emily Chen - Patient: want to do things on my own and <2:33:46 PM> Emily Chen - Patient: like I like the help at the same time like I wish I can just do it myself <2:33:48 PM> Brad LeHoty - Doctor: okay can you tell me more about that why do you feel the need to <2:33:51 PM> Emily Chen - Patient: yeah I feel like you know I've been like living for so long I mostly like very independent I can do a lot of things and like not really need help for it and like I feel like now all of a sudden I have all these medical conditions that anything like the extra help and I just don't feel like I can do as much on my own anymore <2:33:57 PM> Brad LeHoty - Doctor: do everything yourself <2:34:07 PM> Brad LeHoty - Doctor: oh yeah <2:34:21 PM> Emily Chen - Patient: um so <2:34:24 PM> Emily Chen - Patient: I just want to get that like Independence back I guess <2:34:26 PM> Brad LeHoty - Doctor: yeah absolutely so it sounds kind of like summarizing that <2:34:33 PM> Brad LeHoty - Doctor: a medications that are kind of like multifaceted where you have they're kind of the words are small you don't know why you're taking some of them but also you want your Independence back and you want your your daughter to not feel like she has to help you even though it sounds like she's willing and it's I'm glad you have someone like that in your life <2:34:53 PM> Brad LeHoty - Doctor: can you tell me if you think I know you're willing or like at least an eight out of nine willing to take the meds but on a scale from one to 10 how much do you think the meds are helping all your conditions <2:34:55 PM> Emily Chen - Patient: actually <2:34:55 PM> Emily Chen - Patient: probably like also 89 like once I were able I once I started taking them you know all my labs are looking better maybe a drops here and there probably because I'm not <2:35:07 PM> Brad LeHoty - Doctor: okay <2:35:20 PM> Emily Chen - Patient: aching all of them so I think I like vitals and Labs could be better if I'm actually like <2:35:28 PM> Emily Chen - Patient: taking them as I'm supposed to <2:35:28 PM> Brad LeHoty - Doctor: oh <2:35:30 PM> Brad LeHoty - Doctor: good well it sounds like you see Improvement that why is the reason when you see this Improvement how does that make you feel <2:35:31 PM> Emily Chen - Patient: um that's a good question I guess I do I am happy when I don't see those like red thing red markings on my labs and I'm like okay it sounds like everything's going well um and that makes me happy because I feel like I'm being I'm <2:35:48 PM> Brad LeHoty - Doctor: yeah <2:35:54 PM> Brad LeHoty - Doctor: okay <2:35:58 PM> Emily Chen - Patient: in my health better <2:36:01 PM> Emily Chen - Patient: you see that all the numbers are within normal range as opposed to if they're all red then I'm like you know concerned and I'm like what's going on and I feel like a loss of controller lost control over my <2:36:10 PM> Brad LeHoty - Doctor: can <2:36:10 PM> Brad LeHoty - Doctor: what do you <2:36:16 PM> Emily Chen - Patient: yeah I guess when I see those like red numbers and that are like not within normal limits I'm like oh my gosh my health is like like um worsening and then like I told you I'm like worried I won't be able to spend more time with my family see my grandchildren and I'm just like spiraling like oh no like what's happening with all of like my organs inside like why aren't these normal <2:36:19 PM> Brad LeHoty - Doctor: like <2:36:19 PM> Brad LeHoty - Doctor: describe that concern and loss of control what is what is what would end up being <2:36:24 PM> Brad LeHoty - Doctor: the end what are you concerned about <2:36:27 PM> Brad LeHoty - Doctor: open <2:36:52 PM> Emily Chen - Patient: um so that's what I feel like I like and losing control over my health whereas if I see the numbers are within normal range I'm like okay everything is working as it's supposed to and <2:37:05 PM> Brad LeHoty - Doctor: that's <2:37:05 PM> Brad LeHoty - Doctor: okay so it sounds like you do have some Independence in terms of like controlling your own health but also you're trying to balance that with the feeling of Independence when when you're actually trying to control your your health through the medications it sounds like your daughter has to be kind of involved and that's <2:37:05 PM> Emily Chen - Patient: um <2:37:07 PM> Emily Chen - Patient: you know I'm like at the right place with my health and doing all the right things <2:37:24 PM> Emily Chen - Patient: I mean I think so because all they're aspects of my life pretty healthy I eat like healthy foods I exercise actually <2:37:30 PM> Brad LeHoty - Doctor: do you <2:37:30 PM> Brad LeHoty - Doctor: what's tip in the other way do you think that the medications because it sounds like when you take the medications lab values are better and then you feel more like you're taking control your health less concerned about like losing your your family <2:37:47 PM> Brad LeHoty - Doctor: feel like the medications are directly affecting that <2:38:01 PM> Brad LeHoty - Doctor: same same don't you worry <2:38:08 PM> Emily Chen - Patient: I guess I <2:38:08 PM> Brad LeHoty - Doctor: yeah <2:38:10 PM> Emily Chen - Patient: couldn't do a better job of exercise you know just kind of you know you get old and you're tired and you just don't really feel like doing anything ________________________________________________________________________________ End of transcript at Oct 23, 2025, 2:38:22 PM
