Doctor joined the conference <2:46:47 PM> Brad LeHoty - Patient joined the conference <2:46:47 PM> Angie joined the conference <2:46:47 PM> Emily Chen - Doctor: all right hi Brad um so thank you for bringing a little Jimmy in today so we did a check of like his height and his weight and I just wanted to kind of show you like our growth curves and so right now you can kind of see he's at 90th percentile for weight <2:47:08 PM> Emily Chen - Doctor: um and so that means that he's like 90th percent like higher than like 90% of all children his age <2:47:18 PM> Emily Chen - Doctor: I just wanted to share that with you and just kind of see I wanted to see what your thoughts are <2:47:23 PM> Brad LeHoty - Patient: well I mean Jim's always been a bigger kid but I I mean he just he likes eating and I don't want to deny the eating <2:47:24 PM> Emily Chen - Doctor: um I mean from like a number standpoint we would typically like him to get kind of more closer to the average 50% but you know like that's just from a numbers standpoint I just kind of want to you know what you your thoughts are and kind of what are like the things that you guys are doing at home <2:47:33 PM> Brad LeHoty - Patient: so yeah I mean what do you think about it <2:47:36 PM> Brad LeHoty - Patient: oh okay <2:47:58 PM> Emily Chen - Doctor: um so I just kind of want to see you know what does his diet look like in a typical day <2:48:00 PM> Brad LeHoty - Patient: I mean to answer your first question I I mean I I don't know what to do I <2:48:04 PM> Emily Chen - Doctor: mmm yeah I can definitely see you know that you're trying your best to kind of balance you know having him have a healthy diet but also not push him towards any direction and <2:48:09 PM> Brad LeHoty - Patient: don't want to give the kid needing disorder <2:48:13 PM> Brad LeHoty - Patient: I just haven't been mentioning the way in my wife doesn't even have scales at home because of some of the things in her past so I don't know I've just been kind of staying away from it whenever we try to so he needs to just snacks all the time he likes his Cheetos his Doritos I think that ends in O's burritos <2:48:32 PM> Brad LeHoty - Patient: areas and it's just like I don't know I'm trying to get into the fruits and vegetables like I've been told I guess I you know took nutrition in college back in a day and they're like get your fruits and veggies in and <2:48:44 PM> Brad LeHoty - Patient: he doesn't like them and I'm not gonna push it sounds for various reasons especially his reaction to it and <2:48:52 PM> Brad LeHoty - Patient: I don't want to upset him I want to be the loving father but <2:49:02 PM> Brad LeHoty - Patient: oh <2:49:09 PM> Emily Chen - Doctor: you know eating is important for growing like a growing boy like him so I can definitely see what your concerns are I guess you mentioned like potentially being worried that he develops at eating disorder <2:49:19 PM> Brad LeHoty - Patient: yeah <2:49:25 PM> Emily Chen - Doctor: a little bit more about that <2:49:26 PM> Brad LeHoty - Patient: well just ran in my my wife's family everyone had thought like a form of bulimia and it's because their their grandparents were really hard about them their weight they're always making fun of their weight always being like you're not going to fit in and so you know we kind of <2:49:45 PM> Brad LeHoty - Patient: I guess honestly with the opposite with it just to avoid ever installing that in our own kid <2:49:51 PM> Brad LeHoty - Patient: yeah that's that's the big one <2:49:55 PM> Emily Chen - Doctor: I <2:49:55 PM> Emily Chen - Doctor: yeah <2:49:57 PM> Emily Chen - Doctor: really can see that like <2:49:59 PM> Emily Chen - Doctor: like you said that would be discouraging for him to kind of hear those kind of words I guess for you as a parent a parent what do you think are some of the ways that you can avoid that but also encourage a more healthy diet <2:50:00 PM> Brad LeHoty - Patient: you can see <2:50:16 PM> Brad LeHoty - Patient: hmm <2:50:17 PM> Emily Chen - Doctor: yeah I mean I hear you that you know kind of judging by our eyes feels like we're kind of <2:50:19 PM> Brad LeHoty - Patient: I don't know because because when whenever we're like trying to you know you're 90th percentiles based on his weight and my wife doesn't like to weigh the kid so then we have to do it visually and then it feels like we're just judging our kids at the same time <2:50:34 PM> Brad LeHoty - Patient: I do want him to be healthy you know he's <2:50:39 PM> Brad LeHoty - Patient: definitely looking bigger than some of the other kids at a school <2:50:44 PM> Brad LeHoty - Patient: I don't know I do feel like the healthier diet the snacking is is a big thing but I don't know <2:50:51 PM> Brad LeHoty - Patient: I don't know if we can change it yet <2:51:01 PM> Emily Chen - Doctor: judging him and you know his physical appearance but I guess what are your thoughts if he continues to grow in this way and what that would look like for his future <2:51:11 PM> Brad LeHoty - Patient: I don't know I I know that I read a study the other day about biases where more overweight people were getting Less jobs I know that sounds weird but I want to be successful in life I know that it's it's less healthy <2:51:15 PM> Emily Chen - Doctor: here I mean I'm glad that you know you're watching out for his future and I do remember you kind of talking a little bit about how his friends at school are kind of calling him names how do you think that's like making him feel currently in what are your thoughts about what's going on with <2:51:29 PM> Brad LeHoty - Patient: um so yeah I want I want him to be successful I want a little gym to be the most successful he can be and maybe maybe us letting him snack all the time and maybe affecting that a bit <2:51:43 PM> Brad LeHoty - Patient: um <2:51:59 PM> Brad LeHoty - Patient: I mean I'm sure he's not feeling great he hasn't mentioned anything though I honestly wonder if that's it's like the cycle where he's being made fun of so he's just binging to <2:52:16 PM> Brad LeHoty - Patient: to feel better about himself or not better feel mentally better at the same time you know I <2:52:18 PM> Emily Chen - Doctor: okay so what are what I guess what are the reasons that you think are a good reasons to lose weight <2:52:23 PM> Brad LeHoty - Patient: I can't help but think like oh social pressures like is that even a good reason to lose weight <2:52:30 PM> Brad LeHoty - Patient: I don't know <2:52:38 PM> Brad LeHoty - Patient: I think the biggest one is is the healthy being just a healthy boy <2:52:45 PM> Brad LeHoty - Patient: going into you know his his middle school high school years like going through puberty at a healthy weight <2:52:48 PM> Emily Chen - Doctor: yeah um <2:52:48 PM> Emily Chen - Doctor: so <2:52:52 PM> Brad LeHoty - Patient: I think those are my the biggest thing I want my son to be as healthy as you know as everyone else <2:53:03 PM> Emily Chen - Doctor: so you know <2:53:05 PM> Emily Chen - Doctor: seems like you're trying to do your best to make sure he is growing healthy like all the other children out there you want him to be successful in life so I definitely see that the goals do that you have for him are like good ways for like a child to progress and you mentioned you know his eating habits how he loves a snack and loves to eat all the O's <2:53:24 PM> Brad LeHoty - Patient: it's just <2:53:31 PM> Emily Chen - Doctor: oh I guess what are are there anything that you he likes in particular that you think are healthy foods <2:53:35 PM> Brad LeHoty - Patient: I don't know I've you know now that you mention I bet we could substitute some things like maybe a Greek yogurt and set of like a cream cheese on his burrito because he really doesn't like many things that are healthy <2:53:55 PM> Brad LeHoty - Patient: um if at all anything holy will be <2:54:00 PM> Brad LeHoty - Patient: smothered in like some sort of sauce so I guess it's not as healthy <2:54:05 PM> Brad LeHoty - Patient: he did like grapes the other day we got to meet some great <2:54:11 PM> Brad LeHoty - Patient: so I'm sure but he also is a little picky of an either so we haven't tried too many things maybe we could try more things <2:54:18 PM> Brad LeHoty - Patient: he likes those as well it just worried about the temper tantrums <2:54:22 PM> Brad LeHoty - Patient: well <2:54:25 PM> Angie: the ________________________________________________________________________________ End of transcript at Oct 23, 2025, 2:54:44 PM
