Patient joined the conference <7:21:59 PM> Jack - Doctor joined the conference <7:21:59 PM> Mallory Overberg joined the conference <7:21:59 PM> Paul Hershberger joined the conference <7:22:04 PM> Jack - Doctor: all right so um so so you're coming in for a refill of your antidepressant sounds like we increased it three months ago and it's not really helping your symptoms is that kind of correct <7:22:18 PM> Jack - Doctor: okay oh I can't hear you <7:22:27 PM> Jack - Doctor: again area <7:22:27 PM> Rebekah Dalton - Patient: okay how about now <7:22:32 PM> Rebekah Dalton - Patient: okay um yes <7:22:33 PM> Jack - Doctor: okay <7:22:35 PM> Jack - Doctor: okay um I know last time we talked about counseling and I had placed a referral have you followed up at all on that <7:22:35 PM> Rebekah Dalton - Patient: first time <7:22:45 PM> Rebekah Dalton - Patient: no no <7:22:46 PM> Jack - Doctor: okay can you tell me maybe what the hesitation is with that <7:22:52 PM> Rebekah Dalton - Patient: I mean I don't know if there's really a lot of hesitation I just <7:22:55 PM> Jack - Doctor: what do you think the reasons are for that <7:23:03 PM> Rebekah Dalton - Patient: haven't gotten around to doing it <7:23:06 PM> Rebekah Dalton - Patient: I don't know <7:23:07 PM> Rebekah Dalton - Patient: um <7:23:10 PM> Jack - Doctor: I can understand that <7:23:10 PM> Jack - Doctor: you <7:23:13 PM> Rebekah Dalton - Patient: I don't know I mean getting to do much of anything some days is hard <7:23:22 PM> Rebekah Dalton - Patient: I feel like <7:23:24 PM> Rebekah Dalton - Patient: I'm just trying to get through the day sometimes and <7:23:29 PM> Rebekah Dalton - Patient: going out of my way to call somebody or go online or made an appointment is just <7:23:36 PM> Rebekah Dalton - Patient: more than I really feel like doing right now but <7:23:45 PM> Jack - Doctor: already feel tired and and having all these extra things that I'm telling you to do is kind of overwhelming to you <7:23:56 PM> Rebekah Dalton - Patient: yeah I would say so <7:23:56 PM> Jack - Doctor: what <7:23:56 PM> Jack - Doctor: just does that kind of <7:23:59 PM> Jack - Doctor: your thoughts are on that <7:24:01 PM> Jack - Doctor: but do you think there's any benefit to going to therapy <7:24:04 PM> Rebekah Dalton - Patient: uh yeah I mean <7:24:09 PM> Jack - Doctor: okay so you're not sure really what the actual benefits of therapy would be <7:24:14 PM> Rebekah Dalton - Patient: maybe yeah um <7:24:17 PM> Rebekah Dalton - Patient: I don't know I like what difference would there be between <7:24:17 PM> Rebekah Dalton - Patient: me going <7:24:23 PM> Rebekah Dalton - Patient: therapy and just talking with somebody versus me talking to you or talking to my friends like <7:24:30 PM> Rebekah Dalton - Patient: I don't really see how that would be much different <7:24:37 PM> Rebekah Dalton - Patient: yeah just kind of feels like I'd be talking to somebody you know <7:24:40 PM> Jack - Doctor: yeah <7:24:43 PM> Jack - Doctor: is there would you mind if I <7:24:43 PM> Jack - Doctor: talk to <7:24:44 PM> Rebekah Dalton - Patient: sure yeah <7:24:48 PM> Jack - Doctor: you a little bit about kind of what therapy is and maybe how it's different <7:24:53 PM> Jack - Doctor: um so one way we use therapy is called cognitive behavioral therapy it's different than just talking and letting your feelings out they really try to take your emotions and contextualize everything that <7:25:14 PM> Jack - Doctor: like your situation and really try to get you to have more effective coping strategies and more effective ways to handle some of those emotions you're dealing with I'm not necessarily trained or maybe your support system isn't necessarily as trained as those therapists are so that is the reason for the referral <7:25:25 PM> Rebekah Dalton - Patient: yeah so I mean what you're saying is it's not just me going in talking to somebody on a yellow couch and their office but they'd actually like <7:25:38 PM> Jack - Doctor: knowing that do you do you think there may be any more benefit <7:25:43 PM> Jack - Doctor: yeah yeah <7:25:54 PM> Rebekah Dalton - Patient: be helping me <7:25:56 PM> Rebekah Dalton - Patient: if they coping stuff and whatnot <7:25:59 PM> Rebekah Dalton - Patient: okay <7:26:00 PM> Jack - Doctor: yeah um okay so suppose <7:26:01 PM> Rebekah Dalton - Patient: okay <7:26:06 PM> Jack - Doctor: Eve so we've been on this antidepressant for six months now and it doesn't seem to be helping your mood that much suppose we just kind of stayed on this track what do you think it would look like in your life look like going forward <7:26:17 PM> Rebekah Dalton - Patient: yeah <7:26:25 PM> Jack - Doctor: okay yeah I I can understand that you there's a lot of stress going on and continuing down these same things might <7:26:27 PM> Rebekah Dalton - Patient: probably the same honestly if not worse I mean my <7:26:35 PM> Rebekah Dalton - Patient: roommates moving out I have to figure out rent and if I can find another roommate so that's a lot of stress because I can't really afford the rent just by myself <7:26:46 PM> Rebekah Dalton - Patient: so I imagine things would not if we're keeping everything the same right now I imagine <7:26:54 PM> Rebekah Dalton - Patient: that my life in the future would not look that different or I might even be feeling worse to how I'm feeling now I don't know <7:27:11 PM> Jack - Doctor: not going to change your mood at all <7:27:13 PM> Rebekah Dalton - Patient: yeah um <7:27:14 PM> Jack - Doctor: what do you think a change would look like for you that could improve these symptoms <7:27:22 PM> Jack - Doctor: yeah I I hear you and <7:27:24 PM> Rebekah Dalton - Patient: Jaime able try to reach out to the counselor <7:27:31 PM> Rebekah Dalton - Patient: I don't know if I also need to just keep going up on this medication like can I just <7:27:37 PM> Rebekah Dalton - Patient: for right now just solely rely on <7:27:41 PM> Rebekah Dalton - Patient: you seeing the medication and I just it's so hard with my motivation right now like trying to do anything else <7:27:52 PM> Jack - Doctor: I could offer a little bit of insight we for people with depression we like to do both medication and therapy and that's been shown to be the most effective how ready do you think you would be to give therapy a try on a scale of 1 to 10 <7:28:10 PM> Rebekah Dalton - Patient: uh <7:28:13 PM> Jack - Doctor: okay <7:28:16 PM> Rebekah Dalton - Patient: I guess like a five <7:28:20 PM> Rebekah Dalton - Patient: I have to think about it after this <7:28:21 PM> Jack - Doctor: okay why why not like a two what gives you hope for wanting to pursue therapy <7:28:23 PM> Rebekah Dalton - Patient: yeah I think with what you were saying of like it's not just me talking at someone like I could do with my family or friends like they might be able to help me with <7:28:31 PM> Jack - Doctor: okay um why not why isn't that number like an eight or a nine what's what's giving you the hesitation <7:28:43 PM> Rebekah Dalton - Patient: coping strategies and whatnot <7:28:47 PM> Rebekah Dalton - Patient: yeah <7:28:58 PM> Jack - Doctor: yeah okay <7:29:00 PM> Rebekah Dalton - Patient: just Uncharted Territory I guess I don't know I don't know much about it therapy is a little bit of a stigma in my family too so just kind of figuring that out <7:29:05 PM> Paul Hershberger: we'll stop here ________________________________________________________________________________ End of transcript at Dec 8, 2025, 7:29:14 PM
