Patient joined the conference <7:55:36 PM> Jack - Doctor joined the conference <7:55:36 PM> Mallory Overberg joined the conference <7:55:36 PM> Paul Hershberger joined the conference <7:55:37 PM> Jack - Doctor: all right <7:55:43 PM> Jack - Doctor: so just got done examining him and everything like that and he's off with the inmate now I wanted to ask you if you had any concerns about David today at all that you wanted to bring up <7:55:45 PM> Rebekah Dalton - Patient: yeah <7:56:02 PM> Rebekah Dalton - Patient: I mean we've been struggling with getting him to eat foods that are not just junk food he likes <7:56:02 PM> Rebekah Dalton - Patient: his <7:56:13 PM> Rebekah Dalton - Patient: he likes his snacks he doesn't really like to eat the things that we make for dinner or lunch for him <7:56:21 PM> Rebekah Dalton - Patient: so we've just been trying to work on that with him but it's been really hard he if he doesn't get the foods that he wants he will throw tantrums and honestly we are both busy so I a lot of the times it just feels easier to give in to the Tantrums and just <7:56:34 PM> Jack - Doctor: okay can you tell tell me more about that <7:56:41 PM> Rebekah Dalton - Patient: given the food that he wants versus <7:56:41 PM> Rebekah Dalton - Patient: spend <7:56:44 PM> Rebekah Dalton - Patient: bunch of time battling with him at the dinner table trying to get him to eat what we made because it just it's it's not working <7:56:51 PM> Rebekah Dalton - Patient: um yeah I <7:56:55 PM> Jack - Doctor: what kind of things does what does his diet usually look like <7:56:59 PM> Jack - Doctor: mmm <7:57:03 PM> Rebekah Dalton - Patient: likes to snack more than he likes to really sit down and eat like an actual meal but if he does eat foods that aren't snack foods it's like he likes this Kraft mac and cheese he likes packaged Foods he likes freezer foods if we cook anything from quote unquote scratch he really does not want to eat it and put a vegetable in front of him forget it he's not eating that the snap of celery doesn't have the same snap as a chip so yeah he that's mostly his diet is pretty processed foods he got to taste one of his friends sodas at lunch the other day at school and now he's all about drinking soda so that's been hard to <7:57:51 PM> Rebekah Dalton - Patient: yeah our biggest concern is just is he getting the nutrients that he's supposed to be getting I mean I can't imagine he is if he's just eating mostly processed foods but he's also you know he's gaining weight <7:57:52 PM> Jack - Doctor: are you concerned or what are you concerned about with his diet like do you have health concerns because of his diet <7:58:16 PM> Rebekah Dalton - Patient: the other day he said he didn't want to go outside because his friends have been making fun of his right and so now he's staying inside more and just on his iPad on sleep <7:58:16 PM> Rebekah Dalton - Patient: I think <7:58:29 PM> Rebekah Dalton - Patient: still <7:58:29 PM> Rebekah Dalton - Patient: because being on the iPad and talking with friends online <7:58:33 PM> Rebekah Dalton - Patient: he's <7:58:33 PM> Rebekah Dalton - Patient: he's still able to be social but then he doesn't have to worry about what he looks like in getting me fun of so yeah I guess to answer your question we're concerned about nutrients but we're also just concerned that <7:58:39 PM> Jack - Doctor: yeah yeah it I can understand why that would be concerning that he may not be as healthy as you feel like you should be because of some of these lifestyle these lifestyle things has this always been the case for David or has there ever been times where he is eating a good diet or he is exercising <7:58:44 PM> Rebekah Dalton - Patient: a lot of weight and that can't be healthy but also seems to be impacting his self-esteem and social interactions at school so <7:58:53 PM> Rebekah Dalton - Patient: problem <7:59:18 PM> Jack - Doctor: yeah and you guys are trying your best but with three kids it's so hard to it's really hard to dictate what it what a kid does when they are maybe a little bit more picky what are some things that you've tried in the past that may be of worked some or maybe haven't worked at all <7:59:20 PM> Rebekah Dalton - Patient: I would say it's kind of always been the case with maybe getting worse in the past couple years David's the youngest of three and we're tired and we both work and I think when you get to your youngest you <7:59:38 PM> Rebekah Dalton - Patient: not that you start to care less but you want to pick your battles more wisely and <7:59:38 PM> Rebekah Dalton - Patient: I think <7:59:46 PM> Rebekah Dalton - Patient: there's some thought in both of us of if we just get him to eat some food that's a win versus him not eating anything at all and causing a bunch of tantrum so <7:59:56 PM> Rebekah Dalton - Patient: yeah I would say he's always been picky but it's definitely gotten worse in the past couple years <8:00:01 PM> Rebekah Dalton - Patient: but <8:00:08 PM> Rebekah Dalton - Patient: yeah <8:00:24 PM> Rebekah Dalton - Patient: being <8:00:24 PM> Rebekah Dalton - Patient: yeah things that really haven't worked at all is <8:00:30 PM> Rebekah Dalton - Patient: Stern and telling him you have to eat what's in front of you otherwise you can't leave the dinner table like that doesn't work he'll just sit there and throw a tantrum for longer than you would expect <8:00:42 PM> Jack - Doctor: yeah <8:00:43 PM> Rebekah Dalton - Patient: sometimes things at work is like having fresh food out like veggies fruits Etc I just like having them out on the counter sometimes that helps but I <8:00:54 PM> Rebekah Dalton - Patient: we want to <8:00:59 PM> Rebekah Dalton - Patient: him eat healthier but also motivation is low just given that it's easier to have a kid who's not constantly battling you you know <8:01:10 PM> Jack - Doctor: what <8:01:12 PM> Jack - Doctor: do you think a change would look like for you and your family that could maybe improve David's diet or exercise <8:01:17 PM> Rebekah Dalton - Patient: yeah <8:01:26 PM> Jack - Doctor: mm-hmm <8:01:29 PM> Rebekah Dalton - Patient: I mean I think if we did a little better at <8:01:33 PM> Rebekah Dalton - Patient: shopping and prepping for the week and having like those fresh fruits around that would be helpful just to have options in front of him that are healthy <8:01:45 PM> Jack - Doctor: yeah I think that sounds like the the prepping sounds like a great change and we want to I think small changes are better to How likely do you think you would be able to make that change of maybe prepping more per week on a scale of one to 10 <8:01:46 PM> Rebekah Dalton - Patient: you know exercise is a whole other battle with him too he would much prefer to just sit on his iPad then go outside <8:01:55 PM> Rebekah Dalton - Patient: so I don't know if you have tips there but <8:02:15 PM> Rebekah Dalton - Patient: oh gosh <8:02:15 PM> Rebekah Dalton - Patient: Maybe <8:02:24 PM> Jack - Doctor: okay <8:02:25 PM> Rebekah Dalton - Patient: five first maybe on a good day six <8:02:30 PM> Rebekah Dalton - Patient: just totally depends I would say <8:02:31 PM> Jack - Doctor: what the what kind of things are holding you back from maybe being able to do that <8:02:39 PM> Rebekah Dalton - Patient: um well like I said we have three kids they all have their activities going on with extracurricular things we both work full-time so I think just time and energy are the biggest things right now <8:02:49 PM> Paul Hershberger: I'm gonna stop you here ________________________________________________________________________________ End of transcript at Dec 8, 2025, 8:03:01 PM
