Doctor joined the conference <6:40:00 PM> Danielle K- Patient: um hi Dr Caroline um my son is we're currently struggling with his eating habits a little bit and so I just wanted to schedule an appointment and try and get some solutions with kind of helping out with what's going on <6:40:00 PM> Caroline Watts - Doctor: me um and <6:40:04 PM> Caroline Watts - Doctor: Billy um what brings you guys in today <6:40:28 PM> Caroline Watts - Doctor: absolutely tell me about your son's diet <6:40:30 PM> Danielle K- Patient: um he refuses to really eat any veggies or anything healthy you love snacking on junk food and he really just wants dessert or kind of sugary foods and no matter how hard I try he just will not eat like a meal you just want to snack constantly throughout the day <6:40:55 PM> Caroline Watts - Doctor: is this something new or has he been this way for a while <6:41:00 PM> Danielle K- Patient: you know <6:41:00 PM> Danielle K- Patient: he's always been a very picky eater growing up but I guess now that he's going more to school it's <6:41:12 PM> Caroline Watts - Doctor: and <6:41:14 PM> Danielle K- Patient: becoming more of a difficulty because he just <6:41:18 PM> Caroline Watts - Doctor: oh <6:41:18 PM> Danielle K- Patient: won't eat any meals that I sent him to school with he won't eat any of the meals provided at school he just kind of <6:41:26 PM> Caroline Watts - Doctor: just <6:41:26 PM> Danielle K- Patient: little snack throughout the day teachers complain that he's like constantly like eating chips and stuff like that in the middle of class like he just is always hungry but I think that's just because he doesn't <6:41:38 PM> Caroline Watts - Doctor: like <6:41:38 PM> Caroline Watts - Doctor: so you're saying he is just constantly snacking throughout the day on <6:41:38 PM> Danielle K- Patient: eat proper meals <6:41:41 PM> Danielle K- Patient: nope not if it's like a fruit flavored candy <6:41:48 PM> Caroline Watts - Doctor: processed foods or he doesn't really like to eat meals that you prepare him or fruits and vegetables okay has he ever like fruits and vegetables in the past <6:42:02 PM> Caroline Watts - Doctor: okay <6:42:05 PM> Danielle K- Patient: um I kind of you know look and see like what kind of things does he like if you like sugary Foods I tried and put like more organic like you know honey or like not you know stuff that's not kind of processed sugar that'll sweeten the food for him if that's something that he likes or I try and like he really likes french fries and I try and like make you know the fries at home and said of kind of buying them from a fast food place and things like that kind of trying to slowly Implement you know healthy ways of eating but it doesn't seem to really work like hold take a couple bites and then he just won't won't continue with it <6:42:07 PM> Caroline Watts - Doctor: all right <6:42:09 PM> Caroline Watts - Doctor: has there been anything or I guess let me rephrase what types of things have you tried to get your son to eat the meals that you prepare <6:42:54 PM> Caroline Watts - Doctor: gotcha so we've tried in small ways to <6:43:10 PM> Caroline Watts - Doctor: to get him to eat a little bit healthier but he just wants to go to his snacks that he's comfortable with Okay um <6:43:21 PM> Caroline Watts - Doctor: does your son has how does he feel about his diet <6:43:28 PM> Danielle K- Patient: he thinks everything's perfectly fine I mean he does not exercise because he says that the kids outside bully him so he doesn't really like to go outside with others and he kind of just sits at home and just eats all day instead of you know going out and you know exercising running playing with the kids and I think that that's also affecting his mental health you know <6:43:31 PM> Caroline Watts - Doctor: how you <6:43:47 PM> Caroline Watts - Doctor: has your son ever you mentioned that he gets bullied at school for his weight and that makes him not want to go out for recess and then he comes home and eats snacks <6:43:53 PM> Danielle K- Patient: um <6:44:12 PM> Caroline Watts - Doctor: I guess has your son ever expressed to you that he would like to change habits in terms of the foods he eats or exercising <6:44:26 PM> Danielle K- Patient: I think he's just really sad about you know the bullying and all that and he just <6:44:32 PM> Danielle K- Patient: Medicaid again with even more snacking <6:44:35 PM> Danielle K- Patient: so <6:44:35 PM> Caroline Watts - Doctor: hear what you're saying <6:44:38 PM> Caroline Watts - Doctor: yeah so it sounds like the bullying is making them feel low self-esteem and food is kind of like a safe comfortable thing for him to turn to turn to <6:44:53 PM> Danielle K- Patient: I really don't know like I keep thinking to myself like <6:44:56 PM> Caroline Watts - Doctor: is there anything else or what kinds of things could you think of implementing to make him feel safe and comfortable <6:45:07 PM> Caroline Watts - Doctor: in place of the snack foods <6:45:17 PM> Danielle K- Patient: maybe decreasing the poor if you really wants to eat the junk food like starting with decreasing the portion sizes of the junk food that he's eating and like maybe bribing him and being like you can eat that if you eat a healthy option as well kind of mixing and matching slowly I don't know I don't know what what I can do <6:45:39 PM> Caroline Watts - Doctor: he's <6:45:39 PM> Caroline Watts - Doctor: I think those are some great suggestions like you said your son <6:45:45 PM> Caroline Watts - Doctor: and so he might not recognize how all these different pieces are connected but you as his mom seem to understand it really well and I think your idea of taking baby steps so still allowing him to have those snacks but decreasing the portions or <6:46:04 PM> Caroline Watts - Doctor: kind of supplementing it with a healthy food in order for him to get that snack food it's not <6:46:10 PM> Caroline Watts - Doctor: ripping the rug out from under him but it's making some steps in the right direction <6:46:16 PM> Caroline Watts - Doctor: um I think that's great <6:46:20 PM> Caroline Watts - Doctor: that's aged <6:46:24 PM> Alex Johnston: here we can we can go ahead and stop there <6:46:26 PM> Caroline Watts - Doctor: okay <6:46:31 PM> Alex Johnston: okay ________________________________________________________________________________ End of transcript at Jan 23, 2026, 6:46:33 PM
