Doctor joined the conference <2:37:56 PM> katie - Patient joined the conference <2:37:56 PM> Paul Hershberger joined the conference <2:37:56 PM> Sydne - Doctor: all right all right Katie thanks for sharing all of that stuff about your history with me so next thing I'll ask you is a little bit about your social history <2:38:03 PM> katie - Patient: mmm um I I don't drink during the week but like on Friday nights I'll go out with my co-workers and then Saturdays <2:38:10 PM> Sydne - Doctor: um first thing I like to ask all my patients to get this started is a little bit about your alcohol intake would you mind sharing with me just a little bit about about that <2:38:35 PM> katie - Patient: will sometimes we'll like go out during the day the weather's nice and we'll like watch the Ohio State game or something <2:38:35 PM> katie - Patient: and <2:38:40 PM> Sydne - Doctor: and <2:38:45 PM> katie - Patient: and <2:38:45 PM> katie - Patient: day night we'll usually meet up with our friends and brew a bar <2:38:51 PM> katie - Patient: and sometimes on Sundays we'll go to brunch but I don't think <2:39:00 PM> katie - Patient: um but I have a stressful job and to <2:39:07 PM> katie - Patient: weekend <2:39:08 PM> Sydne - Doctor: but <2:39:08 PM> Sydne - Doctor: okay okay so what I'm just a size what I'm hearing you say is during the week you're not drinking any alcohol <2:39:09 PM> katie - Patient: mmm I guess varies but <2:39:17 PM> Sydne - Doctor: and on the weekends kind of around social socialization and kind of celebrations going out would you be able to kind of quantify how many drinks per night on the weekends you're having <2:39:35 PM> katie - Patient: like on a Friday if it's happy hour I'll probably get like <2:39:42 PM> katie - Patient: two or three cocktails because they're half off and then we'll go to the bar and <2:39:48 PM> katie - Patient: I'll probably have a couple seltzers maybe some shots <2:39:53 PM> katie - Patient: be a couple other cocktails <2:39:55 PM> katie - Patient: and then <2:39:57 PM> katie - Patient: on Saturdays <2:40:00 PM> katie - Patient: again like just watching the sports will have some high noon's <2:40:06 PM> katie - Patient: during the game so maybe like three or four and then we go out we'll <2:40:12 PM> katie - Patient: take some shots and I usually always have a couple of cocktails <2:40:12 PM> katie - Patient: so <2:40:19 PM> katie - Patient: guess maybe on Friday like <2:40:22 PM> katie - Patient: five or six drinks total and then Saturday <2:40:27 PM> katie - Patient: similar to that and then Sunday sometimes we'll go out to brunch and <2:40:32 PM> katie - Patient: I'll always you know it's a you have to finish the thing a champagne with the mimosas so I'll probably have like two or three <2:40:41 PM> katie - Patient: is there <2:40:41 PM> Sydne - Doctor: okay okay so on average like five to six per day on the weekend does that sound about right <2:40:42 PM> katie - Patient: yeah yeah but like some of them are Seltzer so those like you know barely count <2:40:50 PM> Sydne - Doctor: okay okay um and what you said you don't drink during the week can you tell me more about that and kind of your reasoning behind that <2:40:56 PM> katie - Patient: yeah usually I just don't really <2:41:10 PM> katie - Patient: like my job is stressful I have to get up early and at night like I'm just come home and like eat dinner and then I'll watch a few shows <2:41:13 PM> Sydne - Doctor: okay <2:41:22 PM> katie - Patient: and yeah I don't really <2:41:24 PM> katie - Patient: husband <2:41:24 PM> katie - Patient: I don't really like wine that much and so I don't really like sometimes my <2:41:29 PM> katie - Patient: have like a glass of wine but I don't really <2:41:32 PM> katie - Patient: like that that much and yeah I'm just busy like doing other things or <2:41:38 PM> katie - Patient: um just doing other things I guess and going to bed early <2:41:42 PM> katie - Patient: yeah I guess I'm just busy and doing a lot of things and I don't really like I don't know I feel like for me I just from being social <2:41:44 PM> Sydne - Doctor: um so do what I'm hearing is just during the week you know you're busy and it's just not as much of a priority as kind of the weekends when you're <2:41:56 PM> Sydne - Doctor: a little more stress-free does that kind of sound like what you're saying <2:42:06 PM> Sydne - Doctor: okay and what do you like about drinking <2:42:12 PM> katie - Patient: all have that's kind of where I guess where I'm doing most of my drinking <2:42:19 PM> katie - Patient: I don't <2:42:23 PM> Sydne - Doctor: alcohol specifically <2:42:25 PM> Sydne - Doctor: okay is there anything that you don't like about drinking or about your own drinking habits <2:42:25 PM> katie - Patient: I just feel like <2:42:27 PM> katie - Patient: you know my friends in college that was like <2:42:27 PM> katie - Patient: what <2:42:31 PM> katie - Patient: we did I feel like all of our <2:42:35 PM> katie - Patient: I think it's I don't know I like the taste of certain drinks and I think it's fun going to happy hour and like trying a different cocktail <2:42:35 PM> katie - Patient: and <2:42:44 PM> katie - Patient: just I always kind of fun and <2:42:44 PM> katie - Patient: I guess <2:42:47 PM> katie - Patient: just a lot of <2:42:49 PM> katie - Patient: social stuff we do revolves around it but <2:42:54 PM> katie - Patient: more it's like it's a good way to like see my friends and a lot of my friends are <2:42:58 PM> katie - Patient: like we're all at the bar together doing that or going to happy hour or doing things like that <2:43:04 PM> katie - Patient: like not particularly I mean I guess sometimes <2:43:17 PM> katie - Patient: like sometimes it's expensive <2:43:21 PM> katie - Patient: and sometimes <2:43:21 PM> katie - Patient: like <2:43:23 PM> katie - Patient: on a Friday after Friday night I wake up on Saturday like not feeling great but usually all like make a breakfast sandwich and then if we're going to go watch a game or something and then I'll just have another drink and <2:43:37 PM> katie - Patient: it kind of just I kind of just feel okay but <2:43:41 PM> katie - Patient: and then I am able to sleep in more on the weekends <2:43:47 PM> katie - Patient: and <2:43:47 PM> katie - Patient: um very sometimes it makes like my head hurt <2:43:50 PM> Sydne - Doctor: okay do you ever get have any concern about you know the health related effects of the alcohol with you know not waking up and not feeling well <2:43:51 PM> katie - Patient: like that but it's not <2:43:54 PM> katie - Patient: not that crazy <2:43:56 PM> katie - Patient: like not <2:44:06 PM> Sydne - Doctor: like read whether that's short term or long term effects <2:44:09 PM> katie - Patient: I guess I haven't really thought about it and like I'm young and <2:44:10 PM> Sydne - Doctor: okay <2:44:16 PM> katie - Patient: it doesn't really affect me like that much because like during the week I will go to a couple workout classes and I feel like I'm healthy and it doesn't really affect me <2:44:27 PM> katie - Patient: uh sure <2:44:29 PM> Sydne - Doctor: um <2:44:31 PM> Sydne - Doctor: if you're willing and open to hearing it I can offer you just some information about you know average alcohol intake from what we recommend as your doctors about you know what the average woman or person should be having in a week does that sound like something you'd be interested in hearing <2:44:53 PM> Sydne - Doctor: so on average we typically say that patients we would recommend less than three drinks within one night specifically for women and then within a week less than seven alcoholic beverages <2:44:56 PM> katie - Patient: I guess over but <2:45:12 PM> Sydne - Doctor: do you think you're lying kind of within those recommendations right now <2:45:16 PM> Sydne - Doctor: okay <2:45:21 PM> katie - Patient: like you know I'm not <2:45:23 PM> katie - Patient: drinking every night but it's just kind of more concentrated I guess if that makes a difference <2:45:30 PM> katie - Patient: um <2:45:32 PM> Sydne - Doctor: um <2:45:33 PM> Sydne - Doctor: see <2:45:33 PM> Sydne - Doctor: or <2:45:35 PM> Sydne - Doctor: how do you feel about you know being over <2:45:39 PM> Sydne - Doctor: that recommendation does that cause any <2:45:42 PM> katie - Patient: I guess <2:45:42 PM> katie - Patient: I guess that's probably not the best and <2:45:43 PM> Sydne - Doctor: okay <2:45:48 PM> katie - Patient: just don't really think about <2:45:49 PM> Paul Hershberger: we'll stop here <2:45:50 PM> katie - Patient: how it all adds up before when we're just out for a long time <2:45:58 PM> Sydne - Doctor: sounds good ________________________________________________________________________________ End of transcript at Mar 12, 2026, 2:46:04 PM
