Doctor joined the conference <3:09:26 PM> katie - Patient joined the conference <3:09:26 PM> Paul Hershberger joined the conference <3:09:27 PM> Sydne - Doctor: all right Katie thanks for bringing Tommy in today <3:09:27 PM> katie - Patient: know <3:09:35 PM> Sydne - Doctor: since we've gone through his history and physical now <3:09:37 PM> katie - Patient: um I guess just like when I saw the growth chart I noticed that like his little dot was a little bit higher on the weight category <3:09:41 PM> Sydne - Doctor: I first want to ask you what concerns do you have about Tommy today <3:09:59 PM> katie - Patient: and that like you know he's not <3:10:01 PM> katie - Patient: like super tall and <3:10:05 PM> katie - Patient: um <3:10:07 PM> katie - Patient: guess like that's probably a little bit concerning coupled with like <3:10:07 PM> katie - Patient: I think <3:10:13 PM> katie - Patient: he might be having issues at school based on <3:10:16 PM> Sydne - Doctor: yeah and I know we we discussed before you provided me with some of his eating habits at home with snacking <3:10:17 PM> katie - Patient: potentially <3:10:19 PM> katie - Patient: know maybe I've heard he mentioned some kids being a little bit mean to him and just knowing how kids are I feel like it might all be <3:10:28 PM> katie - Patient: I <3:10:28 PM> katie - Patient: tried together but <3:10:31 PM> katie - Patient: I thought would be my main concern <3:10:33 PM> katie - Patient: yeah I mean he definitely like doesn't like vegetables or like <3:10:46 PM> Sydne - Doctor: how how would you feel that might play into some of your concerns today <3:11:00 PM> katie - Patient: and <3:11:00 PM> katie - Patient: how to make healthy your meals like we eat a lot of chicken and we don't eat that much red meat but like he doesn't really want to eat our main protein and doesn't like the vegetables and like I obviously don't want him to starve <3:11:14 PM> katie - Patient: really just wants to eat like snacks and like packaged things <3:11:20 PM> katie - Patient: I <3:11:20 PM> katie - Patient: and <3:11:22 PM> katie - Patient: you know <3:11:22 PM> katie - Patient: think that's definitely contributing because that's stuff like is just <3:11:26 PM> katie - Patient: it's not good for you has a lot of dies and stuff <3:11:33 PM> katie - Patient: and yeah I definitely feel like you snacking a lot throughout the day but I also like I'm frustrated because he doesn't eat <3:11:33 PM> katie - Patient: he like <3:11:40 PM> Sydne - Doctor: yeah <3:11:41 PM> katie - Patient: I need him to eat something so <3:11:44 PM> katie - Patient: I guess that's <3:11:44 PM> katie - Patient: like <3:11:46 PM> katie - Patient: how I feel but I definitely can see like it's not that's not a good pattern to be in <3:11:52 PM> katie - Patient: yeah I mean I <3:11:54 PM> Sydne - Doctor: going <3:11:54 PM> Sydne - Doctor: um what concerns do you have with Tommy's you know that little dot on the growth chart if it were to continue <3:12:04 PM> Sydne - Doctor: upwards above kind of that <3:12:08 PM> Sydne - Doctor: 95th percentile <3:12:10 PM> Sydne - Doctor: yeah <3:12:14 PM> katie - Patient: like I just don't want this to carry on to like when he's older and an adult and when you know you can get problems with your heart and like diabetes and stuff and my grandparents have type 2 diabetes like a ton of our family has Type 2 diabetes a lot of people are overweight and you know we've tried really hard to be healthy as a family to try to like break that cycle so definitely like some concern with that not wanting him to have long-term health effects <3:12:46 PM> katie - Patient: to <3:12:48 PM> Sydne - Doctor: I also heard you mention your feeling frustration with you still want your kid to you know be eating and <3:12:50 PM> katie - Patient: he <3:12:56 PM> Sydne - Doctor: him to starve which is understandable concerns what <3:12:57 PM> katie - Patient: because <3:12:57 PM> katie - Patient: that you know he'd be really hungry and I also don't I don't want him to have like a bad relationship with food either like thinking that certain things are really bad or <3:13:02 PM> Sydne - Doctor: would be your concern if he you know were to starve and not be eating <3:13:20 PM> katie - Patient: just <3:13:20 PM> katie - Patient: like I've heard I saw a tick tock that boys can get eaten disorders too and I don't want that either so I guess <3:13:29 PM> Sydne - Doctor: mm-hmm <3:13:29 PM> katie - Patient: kind of finding a good balance there and not having a be hungry and he also gets like if he doesn't <3:13:36 PM> katie - Patient: but if I won't give him <3:13:36 PM> katie - Patient: his <3:13:39 PM> katie - Patient: that's <3:13:39 PM> katie - Patient: like favorite snack even if he does like I worry he gets really angry and like we'll throw a fit and that's also really hard because <3:13:48 PM> katie - Patient: just exhausting and <3:13:50 PM> katie - Patient: sometimes I just give in because I have other kids and it's a lot <3:13:56 PM> Sydne - Doctor: what changes <3:14:00 PM> Sydne - Doctor: juice realistically see your household making <3:14:04 PM> katie - Patient: yeah I think <3:14:06 PM> Sydne - Doctor: to benefit Tommy <3:14:08 PM> Sydne - Doctor: and you know prevent those fears that you had about diabetes but also you know find that balance of of not having a poor relationship with food <3:14:22 PM> katie - Patient: um definitely like trying to buy healthier snacks and having the whole family eating them sometimes also I need to talk to my husband because sometimes I feel like he will like given to him more and give him soda and like things like that and chocolate milk that I know don't really help <3:14:45 PM> katie - Patient: I've also heard about like trying to make healthier swaps so looking into that <3:14:51 PM> katie - Patient: and I think overall <3:14:54 PM> katie - Patient: I know we all could get more exercise in so <3:14:57 PM> katie - Patient: and I also feel like we watch a lot of TV so <3:15:01 PM> katie - Patient: there's some room to do some stuff there it's just been hard to try to execute any <3:15:07 PM> Sydne - Doctor: absolutely <3:15:08 PM> katie - Patient: I think I would get rid of all any of the pop we have and say that we're not buying it anymore <3:15:12 PM> Sydne - Doctor: if you were to make one small change today <3:15:17 PM> Sydne - Doctor: what change do you think you would go home and make <3:15:26 PM> Sydne - Doctor: okay and how do you think what do you think <3:15:32 PM> katie - Patient: art there <3:15:33 PM> katie - Patient: I think he wouldn't like it but <3:15:39 PM> Sydne - Doctor: a Tommy would would think about that <3:15:47 PM> katie - Patient: I think <3:15:49 PM> katie - Patient: we could try to find like <3:15:52 PM> katie - Patient: ternative and <3:15:54 PM> katie - Patient: overall I think if like <3:15:57 PM> katie - Patient: eventually you'll kind of forget about it and trying to have like the whole family not drinking it anymore <3:15:57 PM> Sydne - Doctor: yeah <3:16:05 PM> katie - Patient: so <3:16:05 PM> katie - Patient: would be good <3:16:07 PM> Sydne - Doctor: okay yeah <3:16:08 PM> katie - Patient: it gets long as we're we all try to be committed to it and just kind of kind of stand firm and <3:16:15 PM> katie - Patient: decision <3:16:19 PM> Sydne - Doctor: um so kind of to summarize then <3:16:23 PM> Sydne - Doctor: um because you mentioned some you know big changes so <3:16:27 PM> katie - Patient: mm-hmm <3:16:27 PM> Sydne - Doctor: I'm just healthier snacks all around the health getting rid of the pop <3:16:35 PM> Sydne - Doctor: and getting exercise so those are some bigger changes but then the small small change for today being specifically getting rid of the pop <3:16:45 PM> Sydne - Doctor: and what <3:16:45 PM> Sydne - Doctor: what how do you think the rest of the family would do with that with those changes <3:16:54 PM> Sydne - Doctor: would they like about those changes <3:16:54 PM> Paul Hershberger: we'll stop here <3:16:58 PM> katie - Patient: um I don't think they'd be super excited at first <3:17:00 PM> Sydne - Doctor: it <3:17:04 PM> katie - Patient: but I think <3:17:06 PM> katie - Patient: over time it would hopefully be okay like I know <3:17:11 PM> katie - Patient: yeah I think we'll have to work on it all together and hopefully with a little bit warmer we can get outside more and get out of the house more as well which will help too <3:17:22 PM> Sydne - Doctor: it's great ________________________________________________________________________________ End of transcript at Mar 12, 2026, 3:17:27 PM
