Doctor: here <12:56:40 PM> Ian Vannix - Doctor: mm-hmm <12:56:44 PM> Jed Speers - Patient: so it's possible she would want me to drink a little bit less <12:56:49 PM> Jed Speers - Patient: I I don't remember either off the top of my head but I let's go with I have actually have two children yes <12:56:49 PM> Ian Vannix - Doctor: okay do you have any children just remind me of that I don't remember <12:56:55 PM> Ian Vannix - Doctor: that's fair <12:57:01 PM> Ian Vannix - Doctor: just <12:57:05 PM> Ian Vannix - Doctor: all right have they ever expressed concerns regarding your drinking <12:57:06 PM> Jed Speers - Patient: up <12:57:12 PM> Jed Speers - Patient: mentioned it um but I just I don't know I don't think they're too serious about it <12:57:14 PM> Ian Vannix - Doctor: sure okay now I know you mentioned you've never had a DUI have you ever been behind the wheel while you're intoxicated <12:57:17 PM> Jed Speers - Patient: yeah but <12:57:28 PM> Ian Vannix - Doctor: thank you <12:57:29 PM> Jed Speers - Patient: I've never gotten in trouble for it I feel like I'm safe but <12:57:29 PM> Jed Speers - Patient: I mean <12:57:31 PM> Ian Vannix - Doctor: okay <12:57:34 PM> Jed Speers - Patient: not have yeah I just think I'm pretty good at it <12:57:34 PM> Ian Vannix - Doctor: okay <12:57:37 PM> Ian Vannix - Doctor: okay <12:57:38 PM> Jed Speers - Patient: yeah <12:57:39 PM> Ian Vannix - Doctor: um have you ever considered <12:57:44 PM> Ian Vannix - Doctor: I might happen negatively with you being behind the wheel after having a bit to drink on the weekend <12:57:50 PM> Ian Vannix - Doctor: how do you how do you think that might impact your life if something like that were to happen <12:57:52 PM> Jed Speers - Patient: and yeah that would not be good <12:57:56 PM> Jed Speers - Patient: I mean <12:58:06 PM> Jed Speers - Patient: oh yeah I would I would definitely have some conflicts with <12:58:13 PM> Jed Speers - Patient: probably my wife would be mad at me and my kids would be mad at me and <12:58:13 PM> Ian Vannix - Doctor: mm-hmm <12:58:17 PM> Ian Vannix - Doctor: I'm sure <12:58:18 PM> Jed Speers - Patient: I just wouldn't I wouldn't want something that like that to go on my record stop me from driving or anything like that <12:58:25 PM> Ian Vannix - Doctor: um <12:58:27 PM> Ian Vannix - Doctor: anyone else ever been in the car with you well you've driven well and toxicated <12:58:32 PM> Jed Speers - Patient: yeah I mean my wife has <12:58:35 PM> Ian Vannix - Doctor: okay <12:58:37 PM> Ian Vannix - Doctor: all right <12:58:40 PM> Ian Vannix - Doctor: would you ever consider <12:58:43 PM> Ian Vannix - Doctor: potentially decreasing your your alcohol use on the weekend considering how driving while toxicated could negatively impact you <12:58:54 PM> Jed Speers - Patient: I mean <12:58:58 PM> Jed Speers - Patient: I feel like <12:58:59 PM> Jed Speers - Patient: I just don't really think it's that big of a problem to be drinking this much I know you I know it's probably not the best to get behind the wheel <12:59:08 PM> Jed Speers - Patient: but I've just never gotten in trouble with it <12:59:11 PM> Jed Speers - Patient: I can I'll definitely be I can definitely be more conscious about that though yeah <12:59:15 PM> Ian Vannix - Doctor: sure okay <12:59:16 PM> Jed Speers - Patient: no never <12:59:17 PM> Ian Vannix - Doctor: have you ever been told I guess from a medical perspective what safe amount of drinking looks like in a given week <12:59:24 PM> Ian Vannix - Doctor: okay so my understanding I might have to double check this but the current recommendations are a maximum of seven drinks in a week or four drinks in a single sitting <12:59:26 PM> Jed Speers - Patient: oh I'm definitely drinking a lot more than that <12:59:37 PM> Ian Vannix - Doctor: um what do you think about that <12:59:40 PM> Ian Vannix - Doctor: okay <12:59:48 PM> Ian Vannix - Doctor: right um <12:59:50 PM> Jed Speers - Patient: yeah I mean that seems like a pretty low number for <12:59:51 PM> Ian Vannix - Doctor: it and it's probably important to consider as well drinking can have aspects on your physical health beyond the you know immediate intoxication things like that it can impact blood pressure all those kinds of things as well so it can add up with time <12:59:53 PM> Jed Speers - Patient: for normal safety <1:00:05 PM> Jed Speers - Patient: okay <1:00:15 PM> Ian Vannix - Doctor: does any of this make you maybe reconsider how much you drink and maybe consider cutting back a little bit <1:00:16 PM> Jed Speers - Patient: I mean <1:00:28 PM> Jed Speers - Patient: I guess I just don't I don't want my health to be at risk for it I kind of doing it because I don't really think it's that unhealthy <1:00:31 PM> Ian Vannix - Doctor: sure <1:00:39 PM> Ian Vannix - Doctor: as far as <1:00:40 PM> Jed Speers - Patient: I don't know <1:00:40 PM> Jed Speers - Patient: but <1:00:42 PM> Jed Speers - Patient: have you ever seen patients that have had this problem before <1:00:47 PM> Jed Speers - Patient: like <1:00:50 PM> Ian Vannix - Doctor: drinking more than we recommended <1:00:51 PM> Jed Speers - Patient: yeah <1:00:53 PM> Ian Vannix - Doctor: certainly yeah many people drink more than is recommended and there are those who <1:00:53 PM> Ian Vannix - Doctor: you know <1:00:54 PM> Jed Speers - Patient: totally fair <1:01:00 PM> Ian Vannix - Doctor: out when told about it want to make a change those who kind of continue and it's it's up to the patient what they would like to do but I'm going to always give the best medical advice I can <1:01:09 PM> Ian Vannix - Doctor: up with with what we've discussed <1:01:12 PM> Jed Speers - Patient: I think <1:01:15 PM> Ian Vannix - Doctor: on sales 1 to 10 one you're not already 10 you're very ready how how much you feel about maybe making a change regarding your current drinking habits <1:01:29 PM> Jed Speers - Patient: be around 4 <1:01:29 PM> Ian Vannix - Doctor: pretty <1:01:31 PM> Ian Vannix - Doctor: okay what's what it takes for you to maybe get that four up to something like maybe a six or even a seven <1:01:31 PM> Jed Speers - Patient: yeah I think <1:01:43 PM> Jed Speers - Patient: I think I just need to learn a little bit more about this because <1:01:44 PM> Ian Vannix - Doctor: through you <1:01:47 PM> Ian Vannix - Doctor: mm-hmm <1:01:52 PM> Jed Speers - Patient: I I didn't realize that how much more I was drinking than what the safety <1:02:00 PM> Jed Speers - Patient: parameters are and I don't want to affect my health <1:02:03 PM> Jed Speers - Patient: and I also want to I would I would also want my wife to be a little bit more worried about this too <1:02:08 PM> Paul Hershberger: well stop here <1:02:09 PM> Ian Vannix - Doctor: sure ________________________________________________________________________________ End of transcript at Mar 13, 2026, 1:02:19 PM
