Patient joined the conference <1:16:04 PM> Jed Speers - Doctor joined the conference <1:16:04 PM> Paul Hershberger joined the conference <1:16:06 PM> Jed Speers - Doctor: hey Ian thanks for bringing in will today <1:16:06 PM> Ian Vannix - Patient: here <1:16:13 PM> Jed Speers - Doctor: um <1:16:14 PM> Ian Vannix - Patient: sentences <1:16:15 PM> Jed Speers - Doctor: are things going with him <1:16:17 PM> Jed Speers - Doctor: it's difficult <1:16:17 PM> Ian Vannix - Patient: I mean things are okay <1:16:21 PM> Ian Vannix - Patient: know he you know he's a bit heavier but we've always had this issue where he's he's really picky really is one do the healthy foods fruit badge that kind of stuff really prefer stacks and he's discovered soda recently so it's just it's it's difficult <1:16:38 PM> Ian Vannix - Patient: feel to come to eat right <1:16:43 PM> Jed Speers - Doctor: what sort of stuff have you tried <1:16:47 PM> Ian Vannix - Patient: try to have <1:16:47 PM> Ian Vannix - Patient: I mean with dinners you know always <1:16:53 PM> Ian Vannix - Patient: at the same food need to at least have a bite of everything but I mean he throws tantrums <1:16:58 PM> Ian Vannix - Patient: it's difficult Having Eight year old who has Tantrums over food you know and you've got to pick your battles <1:17:06 PM> Ian Vannix - Patient: 10 million <1:17:08 PM> Jed Speers - Doctor: imagine it has been really difficult and I can definitely see how that would be frustrating <1:17:13 PM> Jed Speers - Doctor: how are things going with will and his friends <1:17:16 PM> Ian Vannix - Patient: so for the most part it's been okay I think he mentioned recently he hasn't wanted to see a few specific friends because they've kind of made fun of his weight so that's that's been hard to hear as a parent you know <1:17:18 PM> Jed Speers - Doctor: okay <1:17:35 PM> Jed Speers - Doctor: so it sounds like <1:17:38 PM> Jed Speers - Doctor: you you have a little bit of concerns about his weight and his wife might also be affecting some of his relationships <1:17:47 PM> Jed Speers - Doctor: how long do you think he can keep this up for <1:17:47 PM> Ian Vannix - Patient: sure yeah <1:17:53 PM> Ian Vannix - Patient: I don't know I guess I haven't thought about that <1:17:59 PM> Ian Vannix - Patient: you know I'm I'm his parent I can I can do the best I can but it's certainly he's gonna start making his own choices right <1:18:08 PM> Ian Vannix - Patient: I don't know <1:18:10 PM> Ian Vannix - Patient: community <1:18:12 PM> Jed Speers - Doctor: have you ever had another family member or friend who has had trouble with their weight <1:18:16 PM> Ian Vannix - Patient: I guess no one that <1:18:20 PM> Jed Speers - Doctor: he <1:18:28 PM> Ian Vannix - Patient: statistically comes to mind I mean you hear from you know other parents struggles with getting their kids to eat food healthy food right versus stacks and soda those kinds of things so I think we all kind of commiserate over that <1:18:42 PM> Ian Vannix - Patient: here <1:18:45 PM> Jed Speers - Doctor: so with him with this affecting his relationships and you have concerns about it <1:18:52 PM> Jed Speers - Doctor: how <1:18:53 PM> Jed Speers - Doctor: uh how important is it for you <1:18:53 PM> Jed Speers - Doctor: to <1:18:56 PM> Ian Vannix - Patient: I mean I would say it's important very important no one wants you know to set up their child for failure or you know future health problems just bad habits at a young age you know so <1:18:57 PM> Jed Speers - Doctor: help them get this weight down <1:19:00 PM> Jed Speers - Doctor: future <1:19:14 PM> Ian Vannix - Patient: I would say this is important <1:19:16 PM> Jed Speers - Doctor: future health problems <1:19:19 PM> Ian Vannix - Patient: I mean you you always hear about you know being overweight all the problems that come with that right so I guess in fear being that if he <1:19:28 PM> Ian Vannix - Patient: sort of lose the weight and keeps the weight on you know what what things is he is he potentially looking down the barrel of <1:19:33 PM> Jed Speers - Doctor: what sort of things could those be <1:19:38 PM> Ian Vannix - Patient: probably <1:19:38 PM> Ian Vannix - Patient: um I mean I think the scary thing everyone considers with weight is you know like diabetes right I don't think we have a family history but you know he he is overweight so <1:19:50 PM> Jed Speers - Doctor: okay <1:19:52 PM> Ian Vannix - Patient: very back of my mind that might be a concern I don't not presently worried about it <1:19:57 PM> Ian Vannix - Patient: he <1:19:59 PM> Jed Speers - Doctor: what are some other things that you've heard of <1:20:02 PM> Ian Vannix - Patient: I mean I think that's the big one that I've heard of I mean are there other things I should be concerned about <1:20:03 PM> Jed Speers - Doctor: yeah there there can be definitely other things that being overweight can lead to <1:20:03 PM> Jed Speers - Doctor: such as <1:20:10 PM> Ian Vannix - Patient: break <1:20:15 PM> Ian Vannix - Patient: it <1:20:21 PM> Jed Speers - Doctor: heart attacks or Strokes <1:20:25 PM> Jed Speers - Doctor: have you ever had a family member a friend who's experienced any of those <1:20:25 PM> Ian Vannix - Patient: when we <1:20:27 PM> Ian Vannix - Patient: I had like a friend who's like Dad had a heart attack they were older you know are you saying you know my eight year old could have a heart attack at this point <1:20:30 PM> Jed Speers - Doctor: I'm saying when we talk about how long to allow the weight to go on for <1:20:39 PM> Ian Vannix - Patient: and <1:20:47 PM> Ian Vannix - Patient: faculty <1:20:48 PM> Jed Speers - Doctor: and <1:20:48 PM> Jed Speers - Doctor: it could lead to health problems down the road as you said <1:20:51 PM> Ian Vannix - Patient: okay <1:20:52 PM> Jed Speers - Doctor: so <1:20:53 PM> Ian Vannix - Patient: he <1:20:54 PM> Jed Speers - Doctor: I think <1:20:56 PM> Jed Speers - Doctor: as you've noted <1:20:58 PM> Jed Speers - Doctor: this is something that you'd like to try to get ahead of <1:21:02 PM> Jed Speers - Doctor: how what sort of ideas do you have for making this change <1:21:06 PM> Ian Vannix - Patient: students <1:21:08 PM> Ian Vannix - Patient: I'm kind of a loss I've tried you know the the healthy foods things like that but just he insists on you know stacking and and soda and just he's you know impossible to Deals when he has a tantrum it doesn't get his way and so I think I've kind of <1:21:26 PM> Ian Vannix - Patient: it kind of giving up you know I'm not sure what else to do <1:21:30 PM> Ian Vannix - Patient: here <1:21:31 PM> Jed Speers - Doctor: sort of resources do you feel like you have to that you could look to <1:21:35 PM> Ian Vannix - Patient: I'm not sure what I can look to I mean you know Wi-Fi try to be you know the front with you know good foods at meals things like that but I mean we also work right so it's it can be difficult <1:21:50 PM> Ian Vannix - Patient: spans the the menu of things we cook things like that really like explore other things that he might enjoy so I don't know exhaust the options and you you kind of go a little easy so stack food <1:22:04 PM> Ian Vannix - Patient: soda in the best moderation we can do <1:22:08 PM> Ian Vannix - Patient: excuse me <1:22:09 PM> Jed Speers - Doctor: is there any alternatives to <1:22:13 PM> Jed Speers - Doctor: those snack foods or soda that could be healthier options for him <1:22:15 PM> Ian Vannix - Patient: I mean I'm sure there are <1:22:22 PM> Ian Vannix - Patient: what like <1:22:24 PM> Ian Vannix - Patient: celery and peanut butter like carrot sticks that kind of stuff you're getting at or <1:22:29 PM> Ian Vannix - Patient: wouldn't you <1:22:29 PM> Jed Speers - Doctor: if you think those are good and could work <1:22:33 PM> Jed Speers - Doctor: other other healthy drink options too <1:22:34 PM> Ian Vannix - Patient: he <1:22:40 PM> Jed Speers - Doctor: yeah <1:22:40 PM> Ian Vannix - Patient: I mean these issues to cut out the soda and stick with water <1:22:46 PM> Ian Vannix - Patient: you know but he's gonna fight us on that like he like he fights this on you know a bite of fruit or veg with meals <1:22:53 PM> Ian Vannix - Patient: like weird <1:22:56 PM> Jed Speers - Doctor: I can tell that <1:22:59 PM> Jed Speers - Doctor: this has been a struggle for you and something that you guys are working on what what do you think is what you'll need to <1:22:59 PM> Ian Vannix - Patient: looking I think <1:23:02 PM> Ian Vannix - Patient: <1:23:07 PM> Jed Speers - Doctor: to take this to the next step what do you think you'll need help with <1:23:10 PM> Ian Vannix - Patient: I don't know of any one thing I don't need help with I mean the whole situation is just it's difficult you know <1:23:11 PM> Jed Speers - Doctor: look up <1:23:17 PM> Paul Hershberger: we'll stop here <1:23:20 PM> Ian Vannix - Patient: so probably <1:23:22 PM> Ian Vannix - Patient: just <1:23:23 PM> Ian Vannix - Patient: you know continuing to work at this despite the you know continued frustrations that will probably see <1:23:29 PM> Ian Vannix - Patient: and things like that ________________________________________________________________________________ End of transcript at Mar 13, 2026, 1:23:37 PM
