Doctor joined the conference <2:37:16 PM> Paul Hershberger - Patient joined the conference <2:37:16 PM> John Stout - Doctor: okay um <2:37:16 PM> Paul Hershberger - Patient: it and you call me Paul <2:37:22 PM> John Stout - Doctor: Paul okay okay Paul do you consume any alcohol <2:37:23 PM> Paul Hershberger - Patient: um just on the weekends I don't drink at all during the week <2:37:27 PM> John Stout - Doctor: okay tell me how much you drink on the weekend <2:37:32 PM> Paul Hershberger - Patient: I really don't keep count at all <2:37:38 PM> John Stout - Doctor: okay um do you drink with friends or alone <2:37:44 PM> Paul Hershberger - Patient: I don't know I probably say <2:37:49 PM> Paul Hershberger - Patient: if I had to guess <2:37:52 PM> Paul Hershberger - Patient: these six or eight <2:37:54 PM> Paul Hershberger - Patient: Friday night Saturday night <2:37:56 PM> Paul Hershberger - Patient: sometimes <2:37:56 PM> Paul Hershberger - Patient: somet <2:37:59 PM> Paul Hershberger - Patient: in the afternoon on Sunday <2:38:01 PM> Paul Hershberger - Patient: like <2:38:06 PM> John Stout - Doctor: okay um you said six to eight at times have you ever drank to a point of blacking out <2:38:09 PM> Paul Hershberger - Patient: usually on <2:38:12 PM> Paul Hershberger - Patient: Friday or Saturday night I'm either out with friends or my wife and I are out so <2:38:17 PM> Paul Hershberger - Patient: usually not alone now <2:38:21 PM> Paul Hershberger - Patient: say on a Saturday I'm <2:38:23 PM> Paul Hershberger - Patient: alone home watching games on the T on TV <2:38:28 PM> Paul Hershberger - Patient: then I might be drinking beer alone <2:38:31 PM> Paul Hershberger - Patient: so kind of depends I'd say more times I'm drinking with others than not <2:38:44 PM> John Stout - Doctor: um just for you if you don't remember how the evening went or you wake up and wonder like how you got there kind of thing <2:38:46 PM> Paul Hershberger - Patient: um <2:38:47 PM> Paul Hershberger - Patient: what do you mean by blacking out <2:38:52 PM> Paul Hershberger - Patient: yeah I'd say that happens <2:39:03 PM> Paul Hershberger - Patient: pretty often where I don't remember <2:39:06 PM> Paul Hershberger - Patient: you know what happened the night before I I usually don't pass out <2:39:12 PM> Paul Hershberger - Patient: um but <2:39:14 PM> John Stout - Doctor: okay um has anybody ever asked you to cut back on your drinking <2:39:14 PM> Paul Hershberger - Patient: it's pretty common for me that I don't remember everything <2:39:18 PM> Paul Hershberger - Patient: he <2:39:22 PM> Paul Hershberger - Patient: here um <2:39:24 PM> John Stout - Doctor: okay <2:39:28 PM> Paul Hershberger - Patient: you know my wife would probably like it if I didn't drink as much I'm not sure she's ever said <2:39:36 PM> Paul Hershberger - Patient: please don't drink as much she doing some just not as much as me so <2:39:36 PM> Paul Hershberger - Patient: I think <2:39:44 PM> Paul Hershberger - Patient: but there's probably time she's annoyed by how much I drink <2:39:51 PM> John Stout - Doctor: thanks for sharing that are there ever has there ever been a time where you feel guilty for maybe what you've done while you were drinking or just for how much you drank the night before <2:40:01 PM> John Stout - Doctor: sure okay <2:40:04 PM> Paul Hershberger - Patient: I think the time when <2:40:12 PM> Paul Hershberger - Patient: there's probably something else I should have done or gotten done like <2:40:19 PM> Paul Hershberger - Patient: I feel <2:40:19 PM> Paul Hershberger - Patient: drank so much on a Friday night that I'm kind of worthless most of the day on Saturday and not getting things done around the house that so <2:40:29 PM> Paul Hershberger - Patient: guilty about not getting things done more than I do <2:40:33 PM> Paul Hershberger - Patient: guilty about <2:40:35 PM> Paul Hershberger - Patient: drinking <2:40:37 PM> Paul Hershberger - Patient: because I'm just having a good time I work hard during the week and <2:40:38 PM> John Stout - Doctor: right I can understand that um let's say or let's see how do you think your life would be different if you had like an extra day a week to get stuff done <2:40:42 PM> Paul Hershberger - Patient: so it's really not a big deal <2:40:44 PM> Paul Hershberger - Patient: well I would get more done <2:40:56 PM> John Stout - Doctor: mm-hmm <2:41:01 PM> Paul Hershberger - Patient: guess depending what I was doing that day if it's chores and stuff then it probably feels like just another day of work rather than another day that rather than a day <2:41:13 PM> Paul Hershberger - Patient: kind of relaxing and kicking back and have a good time <2:41:17 PM> Paul Hershberger - Patient: at this point I really don't see <2:41:17 PM> Paul Hershberger - Patient: a <2:41:19 PM> John Stout - Doctor: okay <2:41:20 PM> John Stout - Doctor: um I guess kind of where we're at right now I'm just curious on a scale of 1 to 10 with 10 being the most willing and one being not at all how willing would you be to cut back drinking on the weekends <2:41:33 PM> John Stout - Doctor: okay <2:41:38 PM> Paul Hershberger - Patient: too so I don't know maybe it maybe a two <2:41:42 PM> Paul Hershberger - Patient: I don't get in fights I I'm kind of a happy <2:41:44 PM> John Stout - Doctor: okay um <2:41:47 PM> John Stout - Doctor: so you have you engaged in any risky Behavior while drinking just examples would be like getting in a fight at all driving under the influence of alcohol anything like that <2:42:04 PM> Paul Hershberger - Patient: happy guy when I <2:42:06 PM> Paul Hershberger - Patient: I'm happy guy anyway but <2:42:09 PM> Paul Hershberger - Patient: when I drink <2:42:10 PM> Paul Hershberger - Patient: I don't I don't get mean <2:42:15 PM> Paul Hershberger - Patient: I try not to occasionally I've I drive after I've <2:42:21 PM> Paul Hershberger - Patient: drinking <2:42:22 PM> Paul Hershberger - Patient: so that that would be <2:42:24 PM> John Stout - Doctor: okay have you ever had any legal issues with <2:42:25 PM> Paul Hershberger - Patient: probably the riskiest thing I do <2:42:27 PM> Paul Hershberger - Patient: now I've again I try not to <2:42:31 PM> John Stout - Doctor: and driving like that <2:42:33 PM> John Stout - Doctor: mm-hmm <2:42:38 PM> Paul Hershberger - Patient: drive and if I do I guess I'm trying to be pretty careful <2:42:39 PM> John Stout - Doctor: okay <2:42:46 PM> John Stout - Doctor: um how do you know anybody that's gotten a DUI while drinking and driving before <2:42:55 PM> Paul Hershberger - Patient: there's been <2:42:55 PM> John Stout - Doctor: okay <2:42:58 PM> Paul Hershberger - Patient: there's been a couple of people work that have gotten into some trouble because they've gotten DUIs <2:43:07 PM> John Stout - Doctor: how do you think your life would be affected if you were to get a DUI <2:43:15 PM> Paul Hershberger - Patient: that would not be good <2:43:18 PM> Paul Hershberger - Patient: you know clearly that the people at work that <2:43:22 PM> John Stout - Doctor: okay <2:43:23 PM> Paul Hershberger - Patient: it's gotten DUIs <2:43:26 PM> Paul Hershberger - Patient: they haven't lost their jobs but I think it's really affected <2:43:32 PM> Paul Hershberger - Patient: not getting promoted when <2:43:34 PM> Paul Hershberger - Patient: they might have gotten promoted otherwise <2:43:38 PM> Paul Hershberger - Patient: it's been kind of a hassle when they've lost their licenses and had to figure out how to get to work so it's a struggle for them to not be late or miss work <2:43:50 PM> Paul Hershberger - Patient: so that it wouldn't be good it's not good <2:43:51 PM> John Stout - Doctor: sure is um is a promotion something like a goal of yours at work <2:43:53 PM> Paul Hershberger - Patient: oh yeah there's a couple more promotions I'd like to get <2:44:02 PM> John Stout - Doctor: okay <2:44:05 PM> John Stout - Doctor: okay <2:44:06 PM> John Stout - Doctor: I'm outside of work and promotions is there any other ways your life would be affected if you were to get a DUI or <2:44:15 PM> Paul Hershberger - Patient: well nobody wants to have <2:44:15 PM> John Stout - Doctor: um something worse while driving under the influence <2:44:18 PM> John Stout - Doctor: okay <2:44:23 PM> Paul Hershberger - Patient: on their record so <2:44:26 PM> Paul Hershberger - Patient: and <2:44:26 PM> Paul Hershberger - Patient: that wouldn't be good because I'm guessing they're probably some consequences for that <2:44:31 PM> Paul Hershberger - Patient: certainly I wouldn't want to be an accident where I was responsible for somebody getting hurt or killed <2:44:37 PM> Paul Hershberger - Patient: a while there was somebody I knew or not I just don't want that to happen so that would be the <2:44:44 PM> Paul Hershberger - Patient: the biggest negative <2:44:48 PM> John Stout - Doctor: um let's see you said you were a two before or after kind of thinking about that a little bit where would you say you're at now on a scale of 1 to 10 with 10 being the most willing <2:44:54 PM> Paul Hershberger - Patient: here <2:45:00 PM> John Stout - Doctor: I see okay <2:45:02 PM> Paul Hershberger - Patient: it I guess if I made a distinction between <2:45:08 PM> Paul Hershberger - Patient: just cutting back on drinking versus <2:45:11 PM> Paul Hershberger - Patient: making sure I didn't drive while drinking <2:45:15 PM> Paul Hershberger - Patient: the numbers higher from trying to make sure I never drive while drinking <2:45:20 PM> Paul Hershberger - Patient: eight <2:45:20 PM> Paul Hershberger - Patient: it was we'll stop here that's about <2:45:22 PM> John Stout - Doctor: okay <2:45:25 PM> John Stout - Doctor: okay <2:45:27 PM> Paul Hershberger - Patient: that's I think <2:45:29 PM> Paul Hershberger - Patient: me ________________________________________________________________________________ End of transcript at Mar 13, 2026, 2:45:41 PM
